well, i made it to the live tourny i halfass mentioned in my last entry and i faired well. both wth playing and the 'getting around/card handling'. i finished 9th outta 54. made it to the final table. went out with A5s vs 'i forget' at about the 3rd or 4th hand of the first round..

i shoulda posted soon as i got home cuzi had went over the details all the drive home.

i was short stack to start with and blinds were going up pretty quick. i think they were 400/800 when i made my allin move(2100tc) and they would be 600/1200 with me in the bb wthin in the next cpl hands.

one caller. dont recall his hand nor if i was better off. bot ii dink i turned a flush only to see him spike his boat on the river. johns out.

was fun. i got a koozie and a key chain for showing up. got a photo album when they drew my name fer a door prize.

top 2 pizes were really nice poker chip sets. basically the same cept one was in a metal box the other wood or plastic, not sure.

i had a huge bottle of water and used that to hide my cards when i peeked at them.
dealers were there soo i didnt have to worry about shuffling.

it was a fun experience.

i been playing some low stakes ring games online at absolute last few wekks snd actually winning fer da most part.

today, just a few minutes ago i noticed my brain/mind was recalling tried and true 'methods' from a time afore the stroke, that allowed me to celebrate a farly nice profitable cash out. some months ago.

i will share those recollections shortly, as best as i can remember and also, as i remembered them, which may be humorous.

1 - luck favors the stupid. this really doesnt help me or anyone win more pots but for me it eased the sting of a bad beat.

2. why did that fool bet here? alot of times find myself not understanding why a person would bet at a certain street and i call or raise, usually call, then scoop the pot then chuckle and debate answering the almost always 'how do you make that call?'

3. dont play mediocre cards in poor position. no humorous ancedote here. this just happened dis morning and made me think about posting here.hmmm

basically it went like this

i'd call that raise fooker if i wasnt in such a crappy positon.

im sure there were/are more but my ass hurts.

sng play has been a poor showing.

im breaking evev with my play money. but have horribly lost the last 4 real money sng's i bought into.

and i know the problem too, which is why there have only been 4 sng's.

i get bored by the 3rd or 4th hand of the first orbit. its pretty sad.

i've got a live tourney coming up in about a month. its a charty event and no cash prizes. but my goal is only to see how i fare with getting around and card/chip handling. i hope they have deallers. i cant shuffle 1 handed.

I bought a house today. At least, I think I did.

Last saturday, I went to the subdivision and picked out a small lil number that would be ready in 90 days.. then, over the weekend, I decided that I really didn't like the floorplan, so, when I went back this last Monday with my earnest money, I picked out a different plan, and they said that they would have to build from scratch.. ok, whatever.. as long as the lot isn't sucky..

so i picked some colors for the exterior and the interior, and then a few upgrades.. and signed a crap load of paperwork... then yesterday, i was at the lender's office, which wasn't really the lender, but an 'originator', who will sell my loan to a 'servicer'..

so Misty, that was her name.. went over another crap load of paperwork and had me sign it all, and when it was all said and done.. i asked..

so, did I just buy a house?

and she said 'pretty much'

So, I am not sure what kinda calculator they use for figuring out my credit, but, I want one for work.. figure it could solve a ton of my cobol problems..

anyway.. expected close is july or august, and until i actually get a key.. i doubt I will believe it actually happened...

plus side is that the monthly payment is only 28 dollars more than i told myself i could handle, and that was a high estimate on her part.. and I intend to bring more for a down payment than she figured in the magic calculator computations...

im kinda excited, and still kinda in shock... ( i doubt i picked matching colors for either inside or outside, cuz, i am no good at that.. and I am sure i didnt pick anything that matches my furniture, which at the time, I didn't know was necessary.. )

Its not a big home.. ( 1100sqft ), but its twice as large as any apt I have been in.. and it has a garage, and a yard, and a tax break...

I'll be taking pics as it is built, unless they decide to use a different calculator and figure me out..

Stepping up

Some moron left a huge comment about something or the other... I had to delete the post and redo it.. I just couldn't find anyway to delete comments... which, if there is not a way, is darn right silly.. anyway,, I copied my text, made another entry, and then deleted the original...

But, now, today.. I have something to say.. or rather, something to type about.. its probaly only important to me, but, thats ok.

I have made a huge decision and started the process of buying a home. originally, I had planned on a rent to own deal with a manufactured home community.. but, decided, if I am going to pay that much money each month, it should be a home... a real home, and not only that, a new home.. I applied online to a couple well known realtors in the area, for pre qualification. One called me and said that I prequalified... Now, I am not sure what it actually takes to prequalify, but, it certainly can not be too much, considering my credit rating...

I was able, with the prequalification, to pick a lot, a floorplan, siding, colors, and such.. and sign a crap load of paperwork.... but, I still need to clear the actual loan application process.. which, to be honest, I don't think any bank in the world will be willing to give that kind of moola...

I am still gonna go thru the process tho.. if worst comes to worst, meaning, if I can't get a house, I will still move, only it will be to a bigger apartment ( with a washer/dryer ).

Needless to say, I am rather excited.. altho, I really should try not to be... if all goes well... I should be able to move in my new home, this coming August... if not, well, then I'll be be moving end of March....

So, Hiro found out his father is not who thought he was... and Claire, who has known for sometime her father is not who he appears to be, has found her mother... incase you missed it last night.. George Takei, you know, Sulu, showed up at the end of Heroes last night... and he didn't look too happy... ( that reminds me, the name of the street my home is going to be built on, is Enterprise... the neighborhood has a NASA theme for the street names ).

Prison Break was phenomenal as usual... they don't make them much better than this, least not on network television....

Well, I had to turn on comment moderation, due to the last one to comment.. so, I am sorry for all you regular commentors... but, I know have to screen my fan mail...

New Ice, not so nice

Well... last week it was cold and wet here in Austin, and surrounding areas... cold and wet enuff to make ice.. lots of ice.... and a bit of snow in some places.. Now mind you, alot of people here in Austin would have called it 'alot of snow', but, I've been to places with actual snowfall, and believe me, it was not really even snow.. but, who am I to pop anyone's bubble..

For me.. it meant not having to work Tuesday or Wednesday of last week.. Monday was already a holiday.. but, since we got behind, I ended up working Friday(another holiday), and Saturday, to help catch up... They talked about working 12-16 hour shifts this week...but, that was not gonna happen for me, certainly not on Monday (yesterday).

I've been catching a bit of American Idol... and it is only because I can not find anything else halfway interesting enuff to pass the time.. ( on tv anyway ). Same ol crap from all the other shows.. I think the next show has them in Memphis.. make way for Elvis, he is sure to make an appearance or two, or three.

Pretty much zero poker online.. I pretty much quit with the announcement of the illegal online gambling thing. I still like to play live, and need to make more of an effort to actually go out and play live... City of Heroes/Villains is not helping much.. If they ever add some sort of hold em to this game, as an 'in-game'. I will be in trouble..

I am currently in the market for a new home.. I would like to stop the apartment living and move into an actual home. Even a 'manufactured' home would be good enough for me. I've looked at a few, and they are nothing like what they had when I lived in one as a child. Anyway, this endeavor prevents me from spending to much money on things that are, hmm, lets say, not exactly necessary.. booze, hookers, and poker.. Hopefully, by the end of March, I will be in a new home... maybe I can host my own poker tourneys, and people will come to me..... ok, well, its a thought.

I haven't seen any standout movies lately.. I did catch a few lil known films on an off channel the other night..

So, we are 8 days into the New Year and I am happy to report, no tradegies to report, from me... jeesh, last year, especially the last half, seemed like each month something dreadful and foreboding happened to me or someone in my family... here's looking forward to a much bettre year..

So, better late than never I guess, let me finish my Vegas write up.. before we get into the time frame where it won't matter, if we haven't already...

I'll just add my thoughts from the list I made on the original post:

1) another hold em tourney, at the Imperial, which at first seemed that it might be my saving grace

Hmmm.. after the blogger tourney, I went back over to the IP and signed up for one of their $55 dollar tourneys.. I started out in seat 3, just like the blogger tourney, so I figure I was doomed already.. and the button was at seat 10, which I had never seen before, but, made sense.. first three hands I get the same crap I was getting at the event, and my frustration level, which was already high, and barely starting to subside, starting rising again.. then, on the button, when it is my turn to act, I look down and see a pair of Black Queens.. I creamed my jeans as they say... the BB was 50, and there were 4 callers before me, so, I popped it to 200, everyone folded except for the guy to my immediate right, who cold called.. flop shows.. KhQh8s, and this guy checks.. I figure he has a King perchance, or maybe an Ace with a weak kicker, and I bet out with my set, a pot size bet of about 600.. he cold calls.. hmmmm.. flush draw is what I think now... turn is 2h... he bets 300.. I figure he got his flush right here, and to find out, I raise him 600 to 900.. he goes all in before I even finish my turn... so, I say nice flush and flip my cards, he flips J6hearts.. and we never see the river... bout 2/3 my chips are gone..

next hand I get ATs, 3 callers before me, I push, get one call, and his T7s beats my hand with a 7 on the river... IGSlotsN

2) some texas hold em bonus

I tried out the fairly new Texas Hold'em Bonus table game, of which the IP had two. I bought in for 60 bucks, lasted about 2 hours, had about 8 drinks, and tipped the dealer one red chip.. I like the game simply because the only idiot available to beat you, is you.

3) slots

I don't play slots to gamble, I play to get drunk... I usually play the penny machines and I try to find one that has a min payout of 5cents per credit.. they do exist.. what I mean is, I hate betting a nickle a spin, and 'winning' 2cents, cuz, your really not winning anything... anyhoot.. I also try to pick a machine where a waitress happens to be near.. otherwise, I might be waiting forever for a drink, and that defeats my purpose.. so, with those two things done, I ask for my drink, give her 5 bucks at that time, and smile.. this trip.. I prolly put in 20 bucks into the slots at the IP, took out 40, and tipped various waitresses 40-50 bucks.. on the way out of Vegas at the airport.. and yes I know, never play the airport slots.. but, I was bored.. first machine I tried was a quarter machine, and on the 3rd spin, 1 credit, I won a 30 dollar jackpot... next machine was a nickle machine and on the 5th spin, I won a 17 dollar jackpot... some quick Slayre type math, and I find myself ahead on slots, for this Vegas trip...\

4) flirting with the most beautiful cocktail waitress in the world ( who got more and more beautiful with each drink she brought me

Hmm.. I forgot her name.. she was cute, and sexy, and she paid much attention to me... most likely due to her getting the majority of the tips I mentioned up there in #3. She promised to look for me in June or July, which is when I expect to return.. and I promised to look for her as well.. I imagine only one of us will keep that promise.. ;) you figure out which one.

5) somewhat rotound young lady sporting two of the extra large hugh yard glasses they use for the daquiris.. like the bandeleros you would find on a mexican bandito...

I am not gonna say too much about this one.. it was a strange sight.. in addition, she looked like she was on the prowl, for I'm not sure.. but I knew if I had eye contact, there was a good chance I would be her prey... and so... I took an immediate left turn, pretending I needed something from the baggage hold area...

6) guy describing, in detail, his idea of a very undesirable female body part, due to bad hygiene and what not, to his friend, who is leaning over the sink... dry heaving

apparently, a group of young men were out and about drinking and carousing.. and one of them got sick, but, couldn't vomit.. and I imagine, cuz, its not like I have been there before.. but it is my guess, that 'he knew if he could just throw up, he would be alright'.. so, his friend was describing the grossest stuff he could think of... trying to get him to vomit... I thought it was pretty funny....

7) guy walking out of harrahs, right in front of me, to the street and just heaves ho..

different guy than #6. we are walking down the strip.. and this guy just walks out to the rail between the road and the sidewalk, and just projectiles a couple of loads, wipes his mouth on his sleeve, and then goes back in to the casino.... I figured I would see that again before the trip was over, but, no......

8) actually winning slots at the airport, yeah.. 45 bucks to the good ( teflon ) for the hour I was there...

Already talked about this.. but, wanted to mention (teflon).. my buddy, who traveled with me, and put up with all my poker talk and what not.. wasn't quite sure what I meant, when I used the term, 'stuck'.. as in, "I am only stuck 60 bucks at the blackjack table".. so, he asked, and I explained, best I could.. so then he asks "What term do you people use when your ahead?".. and I tell him.. we use the term "Ahead". He thought we should use a better term, and suggested teflon, cuz, stuff don't 'stick' to teflon... so, 'I am 45 bucks teflon at the slots'.. you decide.

9) chatting with derek and pauly

oh what can I say about these two clowns that has not already been said... they are two of the nicest people I have ever met... pauly, mentions things to me, something or the other he saw on my blog or whatnot.. and it means alot to me... and derek just makes me laugh... nothing but good thoughts for these two. ( I don't think either one of them 'really' know how to play poker )

10) star trek encounter

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... did both the klingon experience, and the borg encounter.. the latter of which was a complete waste of time... the first one tho.. well worth it, and I would tell you about it, but, Capt. Picard instructed me not to.. so... ( maybe this guy can tell you about it )

11) monorails

oh lord.. don't get me started.... the monorail stations are at the back of the casino/hotels.. which, depending on which station you are getting on at, or off.. is a good/bad thing.. I am only goning to mention one bad example, and then one good one... MGM Grand station.. OMG!.. we got on there, to get back to the IP.. ( btw, we bought a day pass ), and to get to the actual station, you have to walk thru the casino.. well, I am not positive, but, I would bet a shiny nickle that it is a shorter distance from the MGM strip entrance to the IP strip entrance, than it is from the front of the MGM to the back, where the station is... funny thing is.. we did that 3 times.... ( strip walk would have most likely provided better people watching entertainment as well )

Now, we also went the other way.. getting from the elevators at the IP to the station, is a quick 5 minute walk.. and we used it to go to the Hilton, for the Star Trek thingy... once you get there, and go down the stairs.. the Star Trek part of the Hilton is right there.. so, that was nice...

12) casino impressions

This is a stupid topic and I never should have listed it... the IP, by comparing to the rest, or most of the rest of the center strip Casinos, sucks... but, the price is generally right...

13) atlantis show

I think this was at Ceasars.. its one of the free shows that various Casinos offer.. it was pretty cool... nice lil story and some pretty decent effects.... I would never pay for it, and I prolly will never bother to see it again... free or not.. but, it started up right as we were walking by, so..

14) mirage volcano ( that was it!?!?! your freaking kidding me )

yawn... keep walking, move along, nothing to see here.

15) auto show

oh my God.. they got rid of over half thier cars.. and all the good ones to boot... last year I was in there for over an hour.. this trip, 10 minutes, tops.... I was so disappointed.

16) eats

um.. i don't recall my thoughts from the time I listed this.. IP buffer sucked.. don't remember it sucking so bad my first trip.. but, then, I had never had a Vegas buffet before... we didn't starve..

17) how much bourbon did I drink ( see #4 )

more than most of the bloggers, much less than the SoCo Al most likely drank.

18) lost comb

I don't have much hair, but the little I do have, requires a comb, at least once a day.. well, it promptly disappeared, 5 minutes after getting into our room.. only to reappear 5 minutes before we left.....bizarre.. I had thought about growing my hair back out.. but, have since shaved it all off again..

19) stolen money

Every day, I put whatever change I had in my pocket on the table, no, not the table, the top of the bookcase thing they were using for an entertainment center, in the room... on the 3rd day, monday(we left tuesday morning), after coming back from breakfast, or lunch, it was gone.. about 4 bucks worth of change... I suppose the house staff figured it for a tip.. so, the next day, I left my change again, in the same place.. all 4 pennies.

20) things I saw that made me wish I had brought my camera ( see #5 )

I didn't bring a camera and I wish I had... and if you have ever been to Vegas without a camera, you prolly know what I mean.

That's it.. I actually completed my list... there is lots of other mundane stuff that happened, nothing much worth blogging about..

Oh, I got a kick out of the Japanese couple on the elevator that spoke absolute zero English, but, were very impress with my knowledge of their language.. which is simply counting from 1 to 10. Which was enuff to let them in on which floor I needed, and alot more fun than me just pushing 16 myself...

YAY ME!! I got City of Villians to compliment my City of Heroes PC game.. moo ha ha...

( Actually got a gift card from target.. but, target didn't have it, so picked up a movie, Fearless, instead.. then after hitting CompUsa, Circuit City, Office Depot ( cuz it was right next door ), finally found City of Villians at BestBuy. And I'll link them, since they had it.. )

Had to come in to work tonight, and after I fixed the problem, decided to stay for a shift, so, I can play CoV all day tomorrow.. so went to the 7-11 to get some java, and was approached, by a bum, asking for, not a quarter, not a buck, but, 10 dollars.... whoa!! Inflation at its best... Now, the story doesn't end there... this 'bum' noticed my Texas Hold'em cap and asked me if I was a gambler... to which I replied, "oh no, I never gamble, I just take calculated risks".. he found that amusing and challenged me with:

"If I tell you a funny poker joke, will you give me 10 bucks?"

I chuckled and said, " If it makes me smile, I'll buy you a cup of coffee." (which I had planned on doing any way) "and if i decide to share it, I'll buy you breakfast".

"ok" he said.. then, cleared his throat:

( now I have no idea how old this joke might be, but, I never heard it before )

"Why don't elephants play poker in the jungle?"

"I just don't know" was my humble reply.

"Too many cheetahs."

heh, well, I handed him a 5 dollar bill and told him I would share it will my poker buddies... he thanked me and then said:

" I got another one... "

heh.. I had to go.. but, I figured he earned that finsky... I was gonna give it to him anyway.. being Christmas time and all, and he didn't smell too bad, ie, drunk.

We draws name in my family, at Thanksgiving, to decide who buys what for Christmas.. the adults do anyway.. the deal is, each adult gets one gift from some other adult, but, the kids get whatever.. with the parents of the kids being responsible for the crap they don't need, ie, Wii, Nintendo, Playstation, et al...

I try not to spend more than 20 bucks on each kid.. I used to spend up to $100, but, that was back before there was a dozen of them.. back when then were only 2... ie, mine. heh.. times change tho, and families grow.. anyway.. I picked up a mechanical wine bottle opener for my mom.. let me see if I can find one to link to... sumtin similiar to this, which will come in handy for her, as she is becoming elderly and all that comes with that... ( she doesn't drink wine alot, but, likes to open a bottle for guests and what not ). Her and my dad, pretty much have everything they could possibly need, or want, so, its not that easy to find sumtin for them.. Anyway, I picked up a bookshelf style game, Stratego and he flipped over that.. he is 12 years old.. I had that game when I was a kid..

But, the piece day resistance.. I pulled out the magic singing magnets.. heh.. of which I had picked up 4 sets the day before.. 3 bucks a set.. 12 bucks plus tax.. one for my dad, my bro, my bro in law, and my afore mentioned nephew... you would think I had given these 4 men a million bucks.. they forgot all about all their other gifts, and proceeded to spend the rest of the day, playing with their magnets.. go figure....

Back from Vegas, and the Winter Classic... and nothing to report..

Just kidding.. just not much in a mood for writing... but, if I don't start, it will never get done, not to mention me forgetting the highlights, as mundane as they may be to most folks..

I would like to preface with stating that I went with much less funds than anticipated.... I was expecting a check from the insurance company of the truck that hit me back in late july..., and ofcourse, it did not arrive in time for the trip.. so, I had much less money to gamble with, that I had hoped for...( not enough for bowling dear April.. )

The tournament found me cold deck, to the extreme... in the first two rounds, the best hand I got, was QJs.... facing a raise, a reraise, and out of position, I reluctantly folded, only to see the 9 and and T of my suit show up on the flop... never saw the turn or river.. (which is prolly a good thing. ) Seriously for the first two rounds.. I never got any better than that, and it was mostly any semblance of 92 offsuit... I was trying not to show my frustration, but, I doubt I was hiding it well...

After the break, and early into the 3rd round... I found ATs, and raised Fallstaff's raise, but only did a min raise.. the idea was to isolate him, cuz, I was pretty sure I had him beat or at least could bet him out of the flop.. ( he may not know it, but, I was paying attention to his play ), unfortunately, a lovely young lady, whom I had previously not noticed.. called my raise, putting her all in me thinks, for 2/3 of my stack, and I had to call the couple hundred extra.. Falstaff folded... my ATs did not hold up agaisnt the lady's nines.. I'm shortstacked at about T800 at this point.. with the average stacking, prolly up over 5 or 6k....

next hand I believe I am in the bigblind, and I sorely tempted to just put all my chips out there before before the cards are even dealt, but, I figured this would look like 'too' much of a desparate move, and get more action than I would actually want, so, I left it up to the table to decide what I 'might' do.. In my mind tho, I was all in.. I wasn't even going to look at the cards..... I believe everyone folded to falstaff, who raised ofcourse, and I knew he would.. Ryan, to my left.. folded the SB, which suprised me, but, hey I was happy to be HU with my last 800 chips...

I flipped A2o, and Falstaff annouces I am ahead to his KJo... the flop was nice to me, but, around the turn is a Jack, with no river Ace... I am out of the tourney, prolly around the high 60's or so... maybe a tad lower.. I tried counting the remaining players.... but, getting out of there seemed to be more of a priority.

I would, and will do it all again, in a heartbeat!

8) actually winning slots at the airport, yeah.. 45 bucks to the good ( teflon ) for the hour I was there...

Well, now that I have a list, I can come back and put down my thoughts, but, I am at work, and hence, must try to catch up for the last two days.... I arrived home at about 5pm yesterday, and prolly should have started this then.. but, instead, I booted up Absolute and played some SNG's.. 3 of them... won every damn one of them too...

So for now, peace to you both. ;)

i know I know most of all of the rest are already there... or are on there way there.. me, Im not leaving til tomorrow am... thats right.. I am missing the pre tourney fun.... wish I wasn't, but, I am a cheapskate, in my old age... not a problem tho.. cuz Pauly promised to have a couple drinks for me each night I am not there, so, I should be feeling pretty uninhibited(did I spell that right?)

Still have laundry to do before I pack.... and I suppose I should shave my head, and my face along with it..... try to look somewhat respectable for the 3 days I will be there...

Anyway, I am here sticking out the last few minutes of work.... driving me crazy.. knowing how much I need to get done before leaving tomorrow, and not having any of it done... I guess that is what I get for putting it off.. heh..

Haven't nearly blogged as much as I thought I would, since I decided to get over my tradegies, mainly due to the fact that I have started playing City of Heroes again, and it pretty much has been taking up all my free time..

I try not to blog at work, as I am currently doing.. as I work for the state, and technically, its illegal to use state property for personal use... there's a thick line there, but still, I am supposed to be wiser in my old age, and more responsible.... go figure.

I still think Prison Break is currently the best new drama on television these days.. and next monday will be the last show until January.. along with the last show for Heroes as well... what the hell am I going to do on Monday nights now...

As I stated, I started playing an online game again, and this as kept me away from any online poker for the last 10 days or so... so, no news on the poker front, not that I ever had anything worthy of posting about anyway...

Still, the Winter Classic is coming up rather soon, and I am certainly stoked about that... I intend to win this time... or at least make the final table... as long as I stay in til the first break, or longer than F-Train, then I can say I did bettre than last year.

I saw Happy Feet yesterday.. was stunned.. instead of me stumbling thru a half ass attempt at a review... let me share this article I found at The Hollywood Reporter:

Seven years ago, "Happy Feet" was just a gleam in the eye of Australian filmmaker George Miller, who produced both "Babe" films and directed 1998's "Babe: Pig in the City."Miller, whose other claim to fame was the "Mad Max" series, is a genial, sweet-tempered soul with wild curly hair and owlish black-rimmed glasses. (He started his career as a doctor.) Miller's foot-tapping, CG-animated musical "Happy Feet," about singing and dancing Emperor penguins, finally reaches theaters Nov. 17. The seemingly simple and satisfying hero's journey was actually devilishly tough to create and expensive to produce, at a cost of nearly $100 million.Miller studied the structure and interplay of camera, character and music in classic film musicals as well as such darkly moral Disney classics as "Pinocchio" and "Dumbo" as he crafted a story that combines family dysfunction, romance, dazzling vistas, dangerous action, musical numbers and global environmental politics."It's a film with a lot of singing and dancing rather than a classic musical," Miller says. "You're trying to layer, weave and shape the story so that it looks self-evident, clear and simple, but that belies a complex architecture. It's a Rubik's cube. All stories worth their weight, that have impact and endure, must have more to them than meets the eye."
Back in 2001, Miller was meeting with Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer, when his producer, Doug Mitchell, impulsively whipped out the "Happy Feet" screenplay and asked Horn to read it while the filmmakers flew back to Sydney. Miller didn't want Horn to read such an early draft. But by the time they landed, Warners wanted to fund their little Antarctica movie about an outsider Emperor penguin who couldn't sing like the rest of his tribe but was compelled to dance.

But first, Miller had to shoot the fourth "Mad Max" film, "Fury Road," in Africa with Mel Gibson. He was two months away from principal photography in 2003 when the war in Iraq began and the value of the American dollar against the Australian dollar plunged. Suddenly, Miller couldn't ship his equipment to Africa. "Fury Road" was scuttled. Horn promptly ordered Miller to get moving on his Emperor penguins movie. The director was fascinated by the amazing landscape of Antarctica and the way of life of the penguin community, massing in the thousands to endure the frigid Antarctic winters and keep their eggs warm. It was the same drama that turned Luc Jacquet's documentary "March of the Penguins" into a 2005 sleeper hit.

When Warner Independent Pictures acquired "March" early last year, Horn called Miller to make sure he was OK with it. Miller figures it only served to prove that his subject was inherently commercial. Unlike most tentpoles, his movie isn't a sequel to anything. It's original."If they'd been singing and dancing," he says, "I'd be upset.""Happy Feet," which Miller wrote with old collaborators and co-directors Judy Morris and Warren Coleman and new scribe John Collee, didn't start out as a musical at all. "When I realized that penguins were all attracted by each individual song," Miller says, "it became a musical."Miller originally conceived the project as a blend of live-action and animation a la the "Babe" movies.

But after his frequent cinematographer Andrew Lesnie tipped him off to what Peter Jackson was doing over in New Zealand at Weta Digital with motion-capture technology and the first "The Lord of the Rings" film, Miller visited Weta, saw Gollum and realized his problems were solved."You can't train penguins to dance or sing, unlike pigs, which are domesticated animals," he says. "The moment I saw motion capture I said, 'I can get my dancing penguins.' "It was up to Miller's 27-year-old company, Kennedy Miller Prods., to create an animation studio from scratch. In 2001, computer animation was nowhere near what it is today. It took years of sweat, tears and R&D to form such complex operations as Pixar or Chris Wedge's Blue Sky ("Ice Age," "Robots").

It took Kennedy Miller more than two years to build the infrastructure, hardware, software, pipeline and data-processing capacity. And with the glut of animated movies going into production, competition was fierce for top-tier animation talent. Miller and Mitchell, working closely with CEO Zareh Nalbandian, painstakingly built the FX house Animal Logic into an CG animation studio."The first two years were hard," Miller says. "We didn't evolve through making shorts. We had a standing start. We had no campus. We were figuring out how to do it. Inventing the culture."But slowly, the technology improved as they went. At first the movie was simpler and more stylized; Miller kept to wide shots because he wasn't sure that a character like his fuzzy lead penguin, Mumble, with 6 million feathers, could stand up to the detail of an extreme close-up.

But the movie got more and more sophisticated and realistic as the technology advanced, and eventually close-ups were doable. "Our ambition expanded," Miller says.Miller worked with his global hodgepodge of animators, whose average age was 26, as though they were his actors, responding to what they gave him. At first they had a tendency to do low-rent imitations of DreamWorks or Pixar films, but "we had to push it technically," he says. "This was like Olympics diving: the highest degree of difficulty. Once we got it going, it was wonderful." By the time they got to the film's frenetic final months, "they were doing magnificent stuff at an amazing rate," he says.It helped that Miller landed such a fine voice cast, led by fellow Aussies Nicole Kidman -- who had acted in several Kennedy Miller productions, including "Dead Calm" -- Hugh Jackman and Hugo Weaving, plus Americans Elijah Wood, Robin Williams and Brittany Murphy. Miller flew to New York and Los Angeles to grab taping sessions, putting as many actors together in a room as he could. Williams riffed and effortlessly played two parts in the same scene.

Sadly, popular Australian naturalist Steve Irwin completed the taping of his role as an elephant seal just a month before his untimely death in September. Miller dedicates the film to Irwin and the late Australian playwright Nick Enright, who wrote "Lorenzo's Oil."For the elaborate dance sequences, Animal Logic and choreographers Savion Glover and Kelley Abbey turned into mathematicians as they devised a huge repeating grid of individually dancing penguins. Every time they showed Miller what they could do, he'd tell them to add a few more thousand. "I can't sing or dance," Miller says, "but luckily enough we had a lot of people who could."Ace percussionist Glover, covered with white dots, tap-danced on a wooden soundstage, surrounded by infra-red motion capture cameras. Microphones under the floor recorded his flurries of taps. Technology turned those sounds into taps on slushy snow or hard ice. And computers enabled Miller to watch Glover and as many as 15 other dancers' moves on a monitor, instantly transformed into their animated penguin characters dancing in Antarctica, complete with shadows. The animators and the choreographers could watch what they were doing and make adjustments.

Amazingly, Miller was able to land all the iconic music he wanted, from Queen's "Someone to Love" to Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel." The exhilarating underwater penguin ballet is accompanied by the Beach Boys. Prince not only gave the project "Kiss," but after he saw the film, offered a new song for the closing credits."The music had to be disparate and ethnically eclectic, with rhythms and dramatic structure that fitted the contours of the story I was trying to tell," Miller says. "The songs and dance must tell the story and push the narrative."

I met my Grandson the day he died

Well, as you can see, it has been awhile since my last post... just haven't been much in the mood.. shortly after hearing about my nephew, who is fine now.. my daughter called with horrible news about my grandson... I flew to Iowa as quick as I could, to be with her, my son, and their mother.. it was a very sad time... difficult for all of us.. and the mourning, for me, lasted awhile..

I had never met Orrin, before that day.. I estranged myself from my daughter, not on purpose.. and certainly not planned.. nonetheless, true.. I spent the last 24 years expecting the bond her and I had until she left me, with her mother, at 4 years old, would still be intact.. no matter what actions I took or did not take... and on most occasions, the latter.. how naive of me...

But, she wanted me there, to be by her side as her son passed away.. along with her mother, and her brother and sister(half). And this was not going to be one of those times where I neglected her..

Orrin was playing outside of he paternal grandparents house.. a 15 month old, prolly barely walking.. fell in a coy pond and drowned before anyone found him.. Becky was at work, as was the father.. he was in the care of the grandparents.. he was revived, and kept alive by all sorts of machines, until the family arrived, and at about 10:30 am, monday, the 9th of october, they disconnected the last of the machines, and he passed on about 8 minutes later..

Since then.. not much has mattered to be in my life.. certainly not poker.. and certainly not blogging... I pretty much immersed myself in work... coming in early, staying late, working weekends... I kept taking mental notes of stuff to blog about.. and occasionally i would fire up a SNG on Absolute.. but, it just didn't feel right...

Now, today, a little over a month after the loss.. I am remembering how 2 years ago, when I was in a similiar physcological 'perdicament'.. I starting blogging, and the daily writing of thoughts and such helped me.. and since I really don't like working extra hours.. I am going to start blogging again...

I love my children very much.. and I know they know this.. but over the last 20 years I just have not done the things a father should do, in regard to his children.. and it was due to my own selfish needs.. even tho there were mitigating circumstances.. I could have and should have overcome those obstacles.. I can only hope that I am not too late realizing how stupid I am..

So, for my loyal 2 or 3 readers, now you know why I have been absent..

This year in summary, has infact, been pretty sucky...

News of Baby

baby went in for surgery today at about 11:30 CST they were done about 2pm... out of the three possible reasons for the hernia, baby Kayden had the least complicated one... the best of the worst, so to speak.. he is way way out of immediate danger... they were able to put his inards back in place, and watched his lung begin to accept air... inflate a bit, is how the doctor put it.. and they are going to let his heart move back into position on his own...

it went well.. they said it usually takes about 4 to 5 hours.. so, it went pretty quick.. he got a small incision ( well, some for an adult.. about 2 inches ) where they went in to work their miracles.. and then a smaller on for the scope they put in so they could see things..

Mom and Dad are very relieved as are the grandparents... me too. we were all there all day... praying and what not.. pretty scary, not being able to do much, cept worry...

So, thanks for all the kind words and all the positive thoughts....

He will still be in intensive care, for about a week, and they are hoping to take him off the ventilator later this evening...

There was a huge sigh of relief in that room..

..prayers, vibes and what not..

My brother and fairly new wife had a baby yesterday.. not all is well tho.. will just quote what my dad sent me..

Kayden has a hernia in the upper part of his diaphragm which has allowed an intestine to enter the left part of his chest and deflate the left lung and pushing his heart to the right side of his chest. He is getting only 58% lung function. The doctor will not know the extent of the problem until he goes in and has a look. Could be that the diaphragm didn't grow together in front (this is the less severe option and we are hoping this is the problem as it can be correct the easiest without further complications), Could be a hole or tear in the diaphragm and third there could be no diaphragm at all. Hayden is stabilized on a ventilator now and is getting oxegen and etc through various tubes. If he stays stable for a few days the doctor will do surgery in a week.
He is in the neonatal ICU at Brackenridge Children's Hospital, so we know he is in good hands.

I'm just trying to help console the family and just be available for anything.. feel rather helpless atm....

I watched Heroes last night and I am pretty sure that my conclusion is tainted by overly high expectations...

I found it contrived, and predictable.... very predictable... this is not to say I did not enjoy it.. I did... I just knew things were bound to happen that I wish had been played out differently.. Prison Break, to me, is still number one...

I don't mind if online poker is rigged, and I am not saying it is... but if it is, which one of the 'riggers' decided to rig it to let morons take my money?

Airline Cabin Announcements

All too rarely, airline attendants make an effort to make the
in flight "safety lecture" and announcements a bit more
entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been
heard or reported:

1. On a Southwest flight (SW has no assigned seating, you
just sit where you want) passengers were apparently
having a hard time choosing, when a flight attendant
announced, "People, people we're not picking out furniture
here, find a seat and get in it!"

2. On a Continental Flight with a very "senior" flight
attendant crew, the pilot said, "Ladies and gentlemen, we've
reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin
lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the
appearance of your flight attendants."

3. On landing, the stewardess said, "Please be sure to take
all of your belongings. If you're going to leave anything,
please make sure it's something we'd like to have."

4. "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are
only 4 ways out of this airplane."

5. "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express.: We hope
you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed
taking you for a ride."

6. As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Ronald
Reagan, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big
fella, WHOA!"

7. After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms
in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight
announced, "Please take care when opening the overhead
compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as
hell everything has shifted."

8. From a Southwest Airlines employee: "Welcome aboard
Southwest Flight 245 to Tampa ...: to operate your seat
belt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight.
It works just like every other seat belt; and, if you don't

13. And from the pilot during his welcome message: "Delta

14. Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard
landing in Salt Lake City. The flight attendant came on the
intercom and said, "That was quite a bump, and I know what
y'all are thinking : I'm here to tell you it wasn't the
airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the
flight attendant's fault, it was the asphalt."

15. Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo,
Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day, during the
final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it.
After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant

not the band tho.. I never made it to my 'highlights post'.. wanted to.. but, friday I had a kidney stone, or to be more exact, a kidney stone passing from my kidney to my bladder... the lil hole it passes thru is smaller than the stone itself, making the entire experience quite painful... from what I understand, only labor pains are more painful... and I ain't having no baby anytime soon, so, I suppose, I suffered thru the most excruiating pain that I will ever suffer thru.

Saturday was spent recovering from the dehydration which accompinied the kidney stone, and today I have been at work all day....

so, maybe next weekend I can get to the highlight post....

Amazing race starts tonight...

Watched 'Fun with Dick and Jane' the new version.. I like Tea Leoni, she is a hoot.. was an entertaining movie..

also watched 'Hoot'.. not the best production of a movie.. but, entertaining, none the less.....

Well... getting close to my two year aniversary of this here blog... nov 12.. and I got to thinking about a retrospective I might need to write, then I remembered, I never did one for the one year milestone.. so, prolly won't do one for the 2 year eithre.. but, today at work, I was bored, and I started reading my blog from day one... heh...boy, was I a different poker player back then.... I was actually much better then, than now....

.. so, I took that bit of an epiphany(sp), and when I got home, I decided to go back to the higher limit SNG's... ( don't get excited, higher limit for me is going from .50+.10cent to $6.00+$1.00 ).. I played two of them.. took a third, and a second... $16.00 profit.....more importantly I played alot better than I have been of late... more solid, but, i still need to work on what i call bubble play... its when you get down to 5 or 6 and you should be more agressive... still a tad timid there...

(( there are just as many idiots at the 6 dollar level btw, at least on AB ))

But I digress.. since I'm not gonna write a retrospective, I thought over this coming weekend, I would go thru my archives and select 'highlights'.. to share with my multitude of fans... ( that would be you, and you ). I only got thru Dec 2004 at work today, and saw a bunch of stuff that I thought might be enjoyable to 're-share'..... and now that I have publically posted that I would do this, I just might actually do it.. :)

Prison Break is still the best program on television at the moment.. altho, CSI and CSI:Miami are pretty good....looking forward to watching Heros.. I hear good things about this one coming up on NBC.

I picked Mike Boogie to win BB:All Stars..... I didn't think anyone would be dumb enuff to keep CT in as long as they did, but, what do I know... would love to play some HE with these people....

Survivor:Cook Islands starts tonight... 'a social experiment' of a 'different kind', they are calling it.... I just want to see boobies...

Amazing Race starts up this coming Sunday, I believe... I am picking the physical trainer/triathelon team... I picked the hippies to win during the last race, even before the first episode, and I got that one right...

playing some cash games on absolute, trying to clear a bonus... tedious... not worth it, but, was bored...

AA on the button, folded to me, I decide the .35 cents in the pot from the blinds is enuff, and I raise to $1.75. I play like a rock during these occasional bonus clearing attempts.. so, there was no reason for them to believe I had anything less than AKs.

The BB calls.. he has 19 bucks in front of him.. I have 52 bucks. the flop comes

AKQ rainbow.. he bets 4 dollars... I raise 6, and he goes all in for this 15 remaining dollars.. hmmm

He had no reason to call the pf raise with a JT, and he had no reason to bet out from the flop with a JT.. so, I put him on a straight draw, or two pair.. and I call.

He turns over 33.. you would think I am way out ahead... turn is 3, river is 3..

I'm down 20 bucks..

Still trying to get to the pokerdome, albiet, not as enthusiastically as pre 'rear ended by 18-wheeler ' days.. got into top 100 yesterday, before my KK was beat by AJ, ( Ace on Flop ) and then AA taken down by AK (KK on flop)... went from 6th in chips to about 40th or so... AKs in BB, maniac in MP is ALL IN for twice as much as I have, ( his 30k to my 15k ) folded to me, and I call... he flips 86s, and wins with a flush...

I did win both SNG's I played tho.. $4.50 each..

Seems like the better I get at this game, the luckier the stupid people get...

I read somewhere it was supposed to be like that.......

playing with real money again

couple MTT's and ITM once..

bout 6 SNG's, ITM 3 times...

all low buyins..... I'm up about 4 bucks..... still can't sit for very long.. the MTT's were early early in the morning and went fairly quick, since not too many peeps signed up... and the low buyin SNG's generally run about 45 mins, to an hour or so.. prolly could have done much better, but, after about an hour, I have to get up and stretch and stuff.. get my back back to moderate pain instead of major pain...

keeping up with my PT and exercises at home.. it is slow going... but, I think I am improving... tried to go to work this past week, but, only lasted 1 day and a half.... I quit taking the pain killers cuz I felt I was getting addicted to them, those and the muscle relaxers.. switched to advil and so far, this seems to be doing a fair job of keeping the pain in check...

doing more swimming at the pool.... not for the scenery(half naked young ladies), but, for the theraputic bonus doing exercises in the water... really...

infact, waiting for the grandkid to come buy for some swimming, looking forward to showing her my new float.. with a built in pillow and a beer(soda((mineral water)) can holder... :)

so an update on my condition..

ouch ouch ouch

neck and back are pretty much in constant pain.. nothing so bad as I need to be stuck in bed or such.. but, it is there none the less...

doctor is gonna put me on physical therapy, and we meet tomorrow to get that rolling....

missed about 2 days of work so far, if you add up the hours...

muscle relaxers and pain killers make me feel like a drug addict, or at the very least, a hollywood mogul that 'must' have his pain meds, cuz he has millions of dollars... now, i dont have millions.. so, i guess im stuck with the drug addict...

good thing about that, is that i am able to realize it.. so, prolly wont actually become a drug addict.... they sure make me feel happy tho

so, basically, im ok.. just hard to move neck without some pain.. and walking or standing or sitting or laying too long aggrevates my back..

... minding my own business... on my way to my parents house, which I am house sitting til tomorrow, and lo and behold...

This happened about 3pm.. I finally got to the house about 4:45... was on the scene for an hour and a half.... now, this big ass truck, which lost its brakes.. plowed thru a guard rail while bouncing off cars on his left.... I was the last car to be hit... he just tapped me...

I was sitting in traffic... heard a God awful noise.. looked in my rearview mirror.. and what I saw was just like out of a John Woo movie.. a big ass out of control 18 wheeler plowing thru the traffic behind me, about to run up and over my car, crushing it, and me, in the process... I had about 4 feet between me and the car in front of me, and about 2-3 seconds to act... I moved over to the left as far as I could, not caring if I hit the vehicle that was there... and went foward at the same time.. I think this saved me from any serious injury.. as he would have rearended me for sure.. as you can see.. the damage was to the passenger side rear... I forgot to mention.. during those 2-3 seconds I had to act.. my asshole closed so tight a pin would not be able to pass thru, AND my life passed before me.. in a flash...

One of the other folks that got hit, had a camera and promised to email me the pics.. hopefully they will, and I can post those as well.....

I am not hurt, as yet... Ill prolly be pretty sore tomorrow tho, as I am sure every muscle in my body tighten up in anticipation of death.

All Star Idiots if you ask me

Big Brother All Stars, so far, has been dominated by the Season 6 Alliance... due mainly to the idiotic strategies of most of the other housemates.

The SO6 alliance of James, Janelle, Kaysar, and Howie are all strutting around like a rooster in a hen house... thinking they have such strength... when they actually don't, but, apparently, I am the only one that realizes this, and I am not playing the game...

Every time they win HOH, they lose a vote in the elimination process.. they only get three...

The other players in the game, need to stop screwing around and start eliminating this group of 4 obnoxious people...

Marcellus(sp) really ticked me off by eliminating Diane from the HOH competition, instead of Kaysar or Janelle... and Janelle ended up winning it....

I am pretty sure the George will be nominated again.. and if so, he will prolly be gone, no matter who goes up with him...

The smart thing for Janelle to do would be to nominate George and Kaysar, as neither of them will be able to compete in the Veto Competition, due to last weeks competition... ( they both chose to give it up in order to win the current one, George ended up winning it, and took himself off the block ) but, she won't nominate Kaysar, because she is an idiot....

I also watched "Who Wants to be a Superhero" last night and found myself entertained.... was not as cheesey as I thought... these people are less intelligent than the Big Brother people tho... the show is about the human qualities of a super hero, ie, character, integrity, honesty, etc...... 2 heroes were eliminated in the first episode...

Planning a trip to vegas Sept 4 thru the 6th..... no fucking off this time and not booking when i should....

ok, last post described a little bit how I've been trying to claim 50 bucks from Absolute Poker by accumulating 10mil in play chips... I was at 9.999 +- a few chips.. and managed to get down to 7.999 +- a few chips... and back up to 9.8

talk about frustrating.... I just keep reminding myself...

1) took awhile to break the 10k milestone
2) took awhile to break the 100k milestone
3) took awhile to break the 1mil milestone..
4) etc.. for 2 mil, 5 mil, 8mil, 9mil..

I was stuck at 6 or 7 mil for a long time... then jumped up to 9 mil rather quickly and now am back in the lose more than I win phase of this free 50 dollar attempt..

I seem to do better playing the 25k or 10k sng's than I do the 100k sng's, which is how I inched my way back up over the 9mil mark... so, i think i will continue with those until i get enuff so that even a 3rd place finish in a 100k sng will put me over... since I'm math challenged tho.. this might not be that easy..

kk.. 3rd pays 180k sng costs 100k plus 10k entry.. what do i need to have before I buy-in, to ensure passing 10mil with a 3rd place finish...

well.. I've read several of the trip reports, and how you people managed to have so much fun in Vegas, without me being there, is beyond me... I suppose, it is possible tho.. ;)

Im still playing with play money on Absolute... they give a 50 dollar prize to any and all who manage to build their play money up to 10 million chips.. and I am currently at 9.7 million.. and most likely will get the 10 million before the weekend is out.... almost had it today.. but, you know how that variance works.. no sense me whining about it....

Ok, Ill whine... I was at 9.9 mil.. fired up 2 100k SNG's, and only needed at least a second place finish or 2 thirds... I bubbled on both of them... KK running into AA.. JJ into QQ ad naseum...... over and over and over....

Still trying the Mansionpoker.net thing as well.... that is a crap shoot for sure... altho, the 4:30 cst satellite holds promise as no one stays awake, or bothers to wake up for it... 1000 people sign up, and my guess is 200 are actually there playing... I've made it into the top 40 several times.. and top 20 twice.... need to finish 9 or better to advance... my best finish was 12th..... maybe next time....

Poker Dome Satellite

Well, my first attempt at 15 minutes of fame, under the lights of the PokerDome... failed craptastically....

I went out first in the 1000 person satellite.......

UTG is ALL IN off the bat.. and everyone folds around to me, sitting on the button with 99. Now, it took a good 2-3 minutes for people to decide to fold or not, so, I had plenty of time to think about my decision to call... basically, if no one before me called, I was pushing.... and that is what I did...

He turns over K5o... which means I am ahead... pretty far if I am not mistaken.... FLOP and TURN are all rags.... giving him a 3 outter at the RIVER, maybe 6%.. thinks are looking pretty good for me, I am gonna double at a very early stage in the tournament, and probaly be able to bully some people out of pots..

The ugliest King of Clubs I have ever seen in my life flips on the RIVER, and my bid for TV stardom is over....

Saw Superman Returns last night... its an alright flick.. nothing too special... had some slow points.. and the movie is long... Kevin Spacey steals the show... Ms. Bosworth, um.... ( didn't like her ).

A few nice action scenes... nothing too terribly special... i didn't see any special effects that impressed me..... closest thing would be Lois Lane being flung around inside a falling airplane... and for some reason, a different falling scene towards the end of the movie... I guess I'm jaded....

Looking forward to the next Pirate movie... prolly be the next one i see in the theatre..

Robert Duvall, during an interview, about the making of 'Broken Trail', which I watched on AMC, this past Sunday and Monday evening, said he felt this casting was better than even 'Lonesove Dove'.

Well, altho I admire the man, and respect his work, he is afterall, one of my favorite actors, and probaly a favorite of many movie fans, I do think maybe he has lost his mind.....

'Broken Trail', altho entertaining, was nothing compared to 'Lonesove Dove'.

( It wasn't even as good as 'Open Range' ).

So, I'm dealt KK in the BB, early in the tourney.. a .50c SNG, 9 players... 5 people are all in before me... and I decide to fold... this is like the 3rd hand of the tourney... the flop comes AKK, and I would have won with quad K's, but, since I folded, the man with AA takes it down with a FH... eliminating 4 other players.., making it instantly a 5 player SNG with blinds of 10/20. The other 3 players, and myself, proceeded to take those chips from Mr. Fullhouse within 10 hands, and he was out, and the remaining 4 of us had relatively the same amount of chips...

I mention this cuz it just seemed bizarre to me.... the way it worked out.... I ended up taking second place...

In a different tourney, same night, this time a play money 100k SNG, the first hand of the tourney, I'm dealt KQs in the BB... folded to SB who completes... I just check... flop comes... ATJs... ( the nut flush, so to speak ), the turn is 8h and we both check, the river is the 7s and he checks to me, after thinking for a bit... I decide he is not gonna call any bet whatsoever, so there is no way for me to get anymore than the 20 he has already committed, so, I ofcourse go all in.... and to my suprise, he calls... with 89s... ( second nut flush, so to speak )...

Then he starts berating me for playing the hand wrong...... I finished 4th in this one, the bubble..

played in April's home game last week... was pleased to get the invite, as I have not done much poker, or poker blogging these last few months... I usually do well in these home games I decide to join, so, I know they aren't inviting me cuz they think I'm dead money.. :) but, I didn't do so well this last time.. finished 4th outta 6 players. ScottMc was there, along with Ryan, Matt, and Mike, the latter 3 me meeting for the first time, or at least, not remembering them if I met them before... I think I met Ryan once before at a tourney at Adam's... as far as I am concerned, we all played well.. and we all made a few mistakes at one point or the other....

Main thing was just hanging out and having fun... I couldn't stay for the cash game as I had to be up way early for a road trip... but I prolly woulda won my buy in back from the tourney.. :)

I asked Doyles Room to spot me .30c, as I had a dime in there and could do nothing with it.... i figured I could start with the micro limit tables and work my way up... but, they would have none of it.... 'We can not give you .30 at this time'... whatever.....

but, without even asking, Absolute Poker put 10 dollars in my account.. and I promptly played to .50c SnG's taking a 2nd and a 4th, to put me .15c ahead... such a high roller I am...

I've been sick with various forms of flu, allergies, and pnemonia for the last 3 weeks or so... missed alot of work.. and havent played much if any poker to speak of... not even play money..

saw some movies... apparently they sucked.. cuz, I don't remember any of them..

still sick, but back to work.. least for today..

its not looking good...

doc gave me tons of medicine of which half is not covered under my health plan, which means I had to dip into my meager Poker funds again ( ie, Vegas trip )..which in turn means, this July trip is not looking good...

It was only $5.95. Two cans of body spray, a deck of cards, and some poker chips.... have no idea what the chips are made of, pretty sure its not clay, but, they are pretty heavy... ( definately not plastic ). I've tried the spray twice now... not sure what the 'Tag Effect' commercial is talking about...

So I made my way north to Thackerville Oklahoma this past Friday... the city closest to the Winstar Casino... the orginal plan was to take off early in the morning, hit the buffet for a nice lunch, then off to the poker tables to attempt to turn 200 bucks into 600 bucks or more....then head home back to Austin.. pulling over if and only if I got too tired to drive.... alas, not all good plans come to pass..

At the last minute.. a good friend wanted to come along.. it happened to be her birthday this day, and her having no plans, and no desire to sit home alone, she asked to come along... and I happily obliged....

This is where the plan changes.. my friend is not much a casino person, and I personally felt uncomfortable at the thought of her meandering around along, while I was sitting at a poker table, raking chips my way... so, I didn't play any poker at all.. just some penny and nickle slots..... cost me 28 bucks for about 3 hours of slot play enjoyment.... not too shabby, considering I prepared to fold 200 bucks if necessary...

So, we decided to stay the night, and spent a good part of Saturday checking out the historical town of Gainesville, TX, before heading back home to Austin...

What did I learn...?

Take the west side route around the Dallas/Ft Worth metro..

Also, I learned about Poker Pro Tables... pretty neat stuff.... I didn't see the tables until we were on our way out.. otherwise, I might have broke my rule and let her meander around while I checked out a SNG or two..

I plan to go back.. the buffet was pretty decent, and reasonably priced..bettre than some I saw in Vegas... the poker room looked spacious enuff, and the electronic waiting list board was big and easily viewable.. plus the electronic poker pro tables were way cool.. they have $5 min blackjack tables, and more than enuff penny slots...

We went on a weekend.. so the hotel was kinda high, and it was fairly crowded.... so, the next trip will prolly be during the week...

My brother is getting married on May 27th and is having a bachelor party 'at some casino' in Lousiana the weekend before that.. so, that is prolly my next casino get away...

Cept for the 100 bucks I blew in a drunken tilt rage on Absolute the other night.... argh.. broke a major rule and played with money while seriously imbiding spirits.. no one to blame but myself.. interesting to note tho.. of the 5 $20 sng's played..

I got tilted on the play money tables no less... ( 100k SNG's ). Some silly players out there... heh..

Not even worried about the money as I had to drop 600 bucks into my car to bring it up to shape... tires, brakes, oil change, alignment, couple other minor details they didn't charge me for.... any excuse to lose 100 bucks playing poker is a good excuse, right?

Been volunteering at local festivals of late..

Did Spamarama this year.. first time.. my job was to check id's at the beer ticket booth... they bought the tickets if of age, and took the tickets to the beer vendor and traded for beer or soda... or water... its amazing how much difficulty some people have when it comes to showing an id. We were required to card everyone.. regardless of how old they looked.. as the TABC were there in force... we got a nice T-shirt and some free food.. and got to experience the festival for a few hours after our shift... was fun.

Next day.. I did The Austin Fine Arts Festival, which I shamelessly admit, was just so I could see Ruthie Foster live.. my job here was to sell beer at one of the many beverage booths.. also card, but, this time only those that looked young... I actually carded the Mayor of this fine city... didn't realize who it was with all the people jostling for position in the beer line... Had kids working the other side of the booth this day, selling the soda and the water.. no tickets required this time.. strictly cash... couple of the kids working needed to be spanked... ( to say the least ).. but, I was too busy having fun to let them bother me to terribly much.. worked all day cept for a 45 minute break to watch and listen to Ruthie.. damn fine live entertainment... gospel, soul, rock, jazz.. all rolled up into one lil wonderful bundle... highly recommended..

This upcoming Sunday.. will be working the Austin Reggae Festival, formally known as the Bob Marley Festival.. sponsored by the Capitol Area Food Bank. Not sure my duties... haven't received the volunteer info packet yet.. as admission is two cans of food, I imagine I will be loading a truck...gonna be more live music and more festival food... weather should be good and I am looking forward to this one..

Got some more data entry work for Texas Special Olympics coming up.. pretty boring stuff.. but, something to do.....aside from playing poker...

Been playing Dungeons and Dragons online... watching movies... Survivor and Amazing Race.. ( plus now I watch Unan1mas and The Unit, and sometimes Deal or No Deal (stupid greedy people). want Paris to win it all on American Idol, but, not really a big fan of the show... oh, and Prison Break on Mondays.. awesome show.. missed it this last Monday.. but, did record it...

TITAN Support is ticking me off

I still can not log on to TITAN poker... and its been over a month..

Initially, I was impressed with their rapid reply.. but, it is beginning to look like they trained monkeys to reply rapidly.. stupid monkeys...

Each time they respond, its a different person, telling me to try the same thing the person before asked me to try.... so, I say I already tried that, and they reply, a different person mind you, asking for a screenshot of the error..., of which, I ofcourse have already sent umpteen times....

I'm tempted to post the entire email thread here.. but, its rather long and I would have to do some editing to make it look nice.. but, maybe in the next couple of days...

One of thier suggestions was to remove any other online poker software... I'm not sure if they meant not have any running, or just delete them altogether... hard to figure the tech monkeys these days...

Anyway.. my fun money on Absolute is growing rapidly... and I lost my last few cents on Doyle just a bit ago.... 3 SNG's, pretty much ended up the same way...

I've been in class all this week, learning.. 'The Fast Track to J2EE Developers Workshop'. We are using JBoss4 for a server, and the tool is Eclipse. pretty neat stuff.. but, since I work for the State, I'll never get to use it...

Also started playing again... 2 to 4 SnG's a night, but, just play money on Absolute.. I'm still not able to log on to Titan and they aren't giving me my money.. so, not sure what to do there...only 8 bucks.. but,.. its the principal of the thing... I suppose I could actually dig into the registry and find any Titan reference, kill it, same with cookies... delete all the client files... then try to dl it again and reinstall... I'm no fan of jerking around with the registry tho... problem is the autologin is hanging me up.. and it thinks it being sent a "", which is prolly a null character..... I've communicated this to them several times.. they tell me there is nothing they can do..... I'm no tech junkie, I'm just a good guesser...

Anyway.. I've been winning the shit out of these SNG's... and its the 25K entry one's.... players tend to be a bit more skilled than they are back on down in the 300 buyin tourneys ( free money )... So, I want to try with real money again... and was hoping to do it at Titan... now, I think I will just have to figure sumtin else out..

Texas won their basketball game last night... I don't really care, but, figured I would blog it like the rest of the Austin bloggers more than like will.... I did see the final shot on the news.. that was cool..

Austin Blogger Tourney

Yesterday, the WPBT Austin Event started not too long after 1pm, I was there, and I played, altho.. I was not in the best condition to be playing extended poker... I was exhausted before I even got there, having hauled dirt all day.. helping a friend get their lawn back in shape... the weather for this task was not optimal, raining off and on all day.. making it very muddy... which in turn, made it a bit more difficult to work with... but, I rarely pass up a chance to see the local Austin Poker Bloggers... and a tournament as well........

I don't really have a write up... I had planned on taking notes, and pictures... and I would have done a good job too.. but... I was just too tired to care... I really didn't expect to last as long as I did, 4th out of 24 or so.. ITM.... weeeeeeeeeeee... lucky for me, and my faithful reader(s).... a few of the participants did keep notes, and did take pictures...

April - did some live blogging and even had one or two famous Austin folks as guest bloggers..

I decided to play a couple of SNG's on Absolute last night... since it has been over a month since I have played any poker at all... and also, got a big live tourney tomorrow... so, had to make sure I could still recognize the cards... took a 1st and a 3rd.... the competition was, lets say, lacking.... not sure if I am still bettre than average, or just got two tables with some really poor players...

ah well... we shall see tomorrow..

I'm actually only 43, soon to be 44, but lately it seems, things that never gave me a second thought, things like, jumping, or running, or bending over, or getting out of bed, are these days, giving me pause... I suppose my early years of over indulgence have finally caught up with me....

I know that some minor exercising on a regular basis will change my 'feeling old' feeling, but, darn if I just can't get motivated...

I saw Lynard Skynard live last night, at the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo.... needless to say, they rock.....the venue was rather tiny, so, the affair was quite intimate.... I scold myself for not bringing my camera.... so many good shots, oh so many... guess I'll have to try and see them again...

about the rodeo.... im not a big fan of rodeos, i do admire those cowboys for getting up on those big ass beasts and risking life and limb for 8 seconds or so...but I did learn something....

...You don't have to tie my nuts in a knot to ride me like a bronco...

I drank 4 16 oz beers, in a cup, each... too fast, last night.. and i hollered and screamed and stomped and clapped... and smoked cigarettes in the rain.... last night... and today, well, I feel old....

Welp... still no poker... at all... zilch.. nada.. don't even miss it... I miss live play tho... got a tourney coming up next week, looking forward to this one... this time however, will be concentrating more on the social aspects, and less on poker technique....

Amazing Race this last tuesday pleased me a great deal... I decided it is easier to pick a loser, than a winner... so, I picked the sisters to be the next ones to go, and sure enough, their whiny, screaming, crybaby arses are outta here!!!!!!! My pick to win is the hippies.... altho, I expect them not to make the top 5... the ones I pick to win always end up losing..

Survivor last night was pretty good... La mina did not win immunity, and as a result, had to send Sally to Exile Island.. making her immune to being voted out... meaning, the remaining 4 men... had to vote of their own off... the fair thing to do would have been to make it 2 vs 2 and may the bettre man win the challenge..... but no, they went 3 vs 1, and the astronaut had to leave..... oh well... looks like Shane is granted another 3 days.... prolly more since they will be merging soon.....

Stopped playing DAoC, at least temporarily... I bought a game called Fable, and it is quite entertaining... I play it way more than I should...

Going to be volunteering for the SXSW trade show for the next 4 days ( sat-thur ).. actually, its for an orginization called Knowability, who will have a booth with technology accessability demonstrations... volunteers get to visit the EXPO for free, but, it may be free for everyone anyway... not sure... i ove to volunteer tho...

Saw 'Waiting'... it was humorous... not to bad...
Saw 'Doom'... waste of time.... gag!!!!
Saw 'Yours, Mine, and Ours'... updated version not quite the same plot.., but it works.... the kids in this were pretty good, all 18 of them.. nice lil cute family type movie...

Also saw, Domino, The Weatherman, and rewatched The man who would be king.. all ok at best... the lattre being a classic ofcourse...

Got Walk the Line and HP:GOF coming in the mail...

Still not getting signed on to TITAN... and they stopped communicating with me.. so, its time to ask for them to send me my 8 dollars... sigh.....

I watched most of the Academy Awards show last night.... I only saw maybe 10% of the movies that had any type of nomination.. so, I didn't have any great expectations or the like....

Instead, I just favored my favorite actor's, or in some cases, didn't favor the actor's I just thought sucked..

best actor was tuff, cuz, I liked a couple of them... and disliked one for sure, and was on the fence on another... the on the fence guy won... which made me a winner, since the one's i disliked, didn't win...

I only saw one of the best picture nominee's.. and it won... so, I had to be pleased... and it also had several actors I like to watch work..

one stupid monkey movie won no less than 3 awards.... which stunned me... as I did see this crappy ape movie and found it was very lacking in the entertainment department...

pretty much every movie with more than one nomination of any kind, won an oscar.... I think Munich is the exception....

Jon Stewart was good... might need to be a fan of his to appreciate his style.. or even understand it... but, despite the initial cold audience reaction, he kept on trucking and they eventually warmed up........

Too many montages and not enuff thank you speech time.....

Well, I still just am not in any mood to play poker.. and this is still atrributed to me playing online games of a different type... and, I just purchased Dungeons & Dragons Online.. so, it doesn't appear I will be returning to any serious online poker, anytime soon... I expect, the next time I play, will be on March 18... perhaps such a long break will clear my mind of all bad beats, all losses to river 1 outters, and I will be back to the top of my game and crush the competition..... ( all I really need to do is last longer than ScottMC.. so far, its Me 2, Him 1... the first tourney we played in together, at Adam's, I lasted longer.. the second one, same place, he lasted longer.. but, just barely... and the third one, he was not actually there.. he was hunting republican lawyers or the like, maybe it was quail.., but, I count it anyway, cuz, he was susposed to be there, so, I lasted longer by default.. I actually won that one...

So anyway.. been reading good things about this game Dungeons & Dragons Online, so I decided to buy it... and I know between DAoC and DDO, poker will just be an after thought....

Not to mention, I can't even login to the only site I have any money at... 8 bucks at TiTaN, and there is some bug in one of thier scripts used to login.. they have been in communication with me regularly about it.. trying to solve it.. so, kudos to them for that..but, its been two weeks, maybe 3, now..

Amazing Race was pretty amazing again... I was pretty sure the two life long friends were gone, when during one of the side interviews... the one guy said "I looked at this a an.....", had he still been in the race at that point, he would not have said 'looked', would have said, LOOK. its the small things you got to watch for.... I picked the hippies to win it all, and so far they have not disappointed me.... the frosties are annoying and I hope they go next... the pink barbie girls are hot, and altho I do not want them to win.. I do hope they stay for awhile, as they are nice eye candy... I don't like the man who put the motorcycle together.. he is obnoxious... he accidently cheated right away by reserving flights via phone... the clue said this is not allowed.. they found thier error b4 arriving at the airport, so, I guess they just had to wait in line like everyone else...

Survivor was interesting last night... Casaya is certainly the strangest group I have seen together in some time.... I don't know how La Mina managed to win the immunity challenge, but am glad they did... even tho my two picks are gone now, I still feel allegiance to thier tribe...next time, if La Mina goes to council... could be the last remaining female.. and with Casaya, prolly Bruce or Shane...

Oscars coming up this Sunday... not too excited about it like I used to be... prolly cuz I see alot less movies these days....... I hope CJ picks V for Vendetta for the next Blogger Movie for the movie club... I was not particularly interested in seeing Firewall, so, I did not participate, but, I would prolly go see V...

Watched True Grit last nite.. there are some amazing quotes from that movie.. practically every spoken word... heh... movie is different today for me at 43, than it was when I first saw it around 12 years old or so.. Kim Darby played Mattie Ross in the film.. the female lead... and I sent her a bit of an email about how I like the movie better today, than 25 or so years ago.....

..it's the journey... or something like that...

Oh this Poker Quest I have been on... what a journey... nothing much compared to some other more notable bloggers.... but, for my lil corner of the world, a very nice journey indeed.... I never really had any goal to this 'Quest'.. I just couldn't think of a name for the blog... seriously, thats the truth...but, I have managed to acquire a few 'treasures' along the way..some more mundane than others..

I have gotten 7 or so Royal Flushes.. score or so of straight flushes, accompanied by same number of quads... half a dozen HAMMER wins, and even more HAMMER losses...these are relatively petite treasures, in the whole scope of the quest...

More important, and infinately more valuable.. are the likes of Pauly, Derek, CJ, April, Scott, Adam.. and others I have met, or chatted with.. these people have taught me to be a better than average poker player.. and I attribute my break even status to thier frequent words of wisdom.... they, in their own way, and usually unaware, have also taught me to be a better person.... better to myself, and to others... so I thank them for these treasures...

So, the time has come to end the Quest... futile as it was... the journey will continue.. for, after all, it is all about the journey... yes?

Going to Vegas

I am really close to booking a trip to vegas for the time frame of April 9th thru April 12th.. those days are pretty much set in stone... as my birthday is April 9th, and I thought I would give myself a nice bday present/trip.

I found a fairly good deal, or perhaps I should just call it 'an air/hotel package' I am comfortable with, I just need to decide if I want to stay 2 nites or 3. Staying a 3rd night is 70 dollars more..

I am going alone.. so, I am not sure I will need 3 nights... but, the 70 bucks is pretty insignificant.. so, prolly stay for 3 nights...

This is not going to affect the trip in July/August.. incase anyone might be worried about that..

I am also planning a trip to the Grand Coushatta, in Kinder LA., soon... that will prolly be a one night stay...wanted to go this weekend coming up, but, could not find a hotel room for a price I would be comfortable with... this trip may be March 30... and 31st... not sure yet..

Movies I have seen recently..

Ballad of Lil Joe.. about a woman living as a man in the 1880's or so.. ( after the civil war, before cars in the West. inspired by true story. I liked it.. was interesting..

Far from Heaven.. about how secret desires can destroy a life or a family.. stars Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid... not too bad.. great performances all around.

Into the Blue.. Jessica Alba is hot

I am sorely lacking in the blog department of late..... it's a pokerish blog, and I just have not played much poker, lately..... and any poker I have played.. simply has been 'nothing to talk about'.

Does this beg the question, why? Well, even if it doesn't, I am going to tell you anyway...

2 main reasons... one being sorta selfish...

1) Since about the 1st of the month, I have been playing Dark Age of Camelot... it is an online role playing game, of the massive user type... I had played this game for 2 years, then quit for about 2 years.. and now I am back in it.. I have always stayed in contact with the friends I made online, thru our guild website... and some changes to the game made it appealing for me to come back...

2) been spending more time with the ex's grandkids.... I pretty much considert them grandkids of my own... but, technically, they are not... not by blood, but certainly by love.

Watched alot of movies since my last entry... any stand out? Hmmm.. let me think..

The Island was not half bad, which I guess makes it not half good as well.... interesting choice of words there Slayre boy...

Saw most of Casablanca ( never seen it before ) and had to miss the last 20 minutes.. so I put it on my online rental queue.. got it yesterday.. just haven't watched it yet.

Oh.. Saw the IMAX version of Polar Express.. way cool... good movie too....

Wedding Crashers.. too much hype from friends made me not laff as much as I prolly would have had I heard nothing about it... Vince Vaughn is incredibly funny in pretty much any movie he is in, and this is no exception..

Cinderella Man -- liked it alot...

Exorcism of Emily Rose - I don't like scary movies.. even if they aren't all that scary... this is based on a true story, and had they set it in the country and the time it actually took place, it would have been a phenomenal movie, as opposed to so-so.....

I missed the WWdN last night.. on purpose.. I was sitting right there, with the tourney window open... checking out who was all registered and what not.. but, I asked myself 'Do I really feel like playing poker?'.. and since the answer was 'No', I chose not to.. imagine that.. I figure I saved myself 11 bucks....to be lost at a later date, I am sure....

Then ofcourse, at about 7pm, one hour after it started.. guess who feels like playing poker... doh!!! Gonna have to remember that next time....

I have been taking some serious kicking of the junkage lately.. I mean, really bad calls to my raises, and then being sucked out on... prompts me to come up with a saying such as:

'We don't remember the good sessions because the bad sessions hurt so much'..

There are two distinct kinds of bad sessions.. those that just bring you no cards whatsoever to play with... and then the other kind... the kind that would make even Freddy Krueger cringe.... you know, bad beat after bad beat, after bad beat... those sessions where you do get the cards, you do make the right decisions, you do end up with all your money in the pot with the best hand, and yet, you still end up with a losing session..

..well, the latter has been my bane of late... perhaps this is partly why 'I did not feel like playing poker'.

I am ready to go back to Las Vegas now.. so whoever is going to make all the arrangements.... get to it... ;)

I promise to play in mixed games with bloggers this next time, and I hope some or all of ya'll hold me to that promise.

... in the world of Poker Christmas, I got the best gift you can get, from Absolute Poker.... (I would link to them, but, as you will soon read, I am upset with them again)... anyhoot.. A Royal Flush.... diamonds..... I take that back.. not the best... it was during a fun money game.. so, a real cash game would have been better... I requested the hand history, and as usual, got let down again.... but.. I held Qd8h in the BB checked to me.. I raised a pussy min raise, both of the two remaining donkeys called..... flop came KdAdTd... I min bet.. 1st guy folds.. second guy min raises, and I call.. turn is 8s.. I check.. he checks.. river is Jd..... I bet 300... which is 5X's BB.. he calls... yay me....

My niece got me a Hand Held Electronic WSOP Hold'em game.... sweet.....

That 5K Christmas Freeroll at doyles was a bust.. I was like 8th in chips out of 400 or so left.... a guy I have covered by 2k is in BB to me in SB.. I raise 3XBB with KK.. he goes all in, so, I call... he has J8o...... flop is JJJ..... I am crippled.....

..... few hands later... I am UTG with AA.. 1700 in chips.. way at the bottom of the 300 or so left.... I push... one caller, he has 1900 in chips.. T8s.... flop is J97 rainbow... I am out....

i didn't even get mad.. How could I.....???

Ok, Wednesday evening, after a particulary grueling day at work.... keep in mind, I am a software type, Systems Analyst..... I decipher code written by other people, usually years and years ago.. to determine why it don't work, or how to make it work bettre... occasionally... I get to write new code... for new systems... and before I left for vegas.... I made sure the 4 programs I wrote for the new system were all hunky dory.. I would not have been able to go, had they not been hunky dory... anyway... doing some final testing on wednesday, come to find out.. someone overwrote my code.. not only in our project library.. but also on my pc.. so, after a particualry grueling day on Wednesday..

..I boot up Absolute and proceed to invest $3.60 into SNG's. That would be six at $.50 + $.10 each.. and after 2 hours, or so, I finish the session at $3.90.

I started with $3, so, 90 cents up... I had:

1 first
1 second
1 third
2 bubbles
1 stupid call on first hand with 64soooted cuz 5 people were all in before me...

Now, I should never have even played, the mood I was in.. I was, and I am embarrassed to say... ANGRY.... All I could think about, while playing, and I use the term, 'playing', loosely.. is -->

How on earth am I ever going to be able to take a vacation again.. if I can not trust the people I leave behind to NOT write over good code, that I or someone else spent months writing.. and more months testing...

<-- the more I called min raises with weak paint and 2 gap connectors.. the angrier I got... I wanted to play more, after the 6th game, which was my 1st place.. and put me back to even plus a lil more.. but, my friend called and she knew I was angry... so.. I shut down my computer... and went to bed. Wednesday night could have been a very bad night for the Slayre Poker Bankroll... had it not been for the timely phone call of the non poker playing friend..

Last night, which was Thursday night, today being Friday and all.. hey, don't blame me, blame the Romans... I went to see King Kong ( not impressed ).. and then to dinner at a favorite restaurant, Rockfish... got home late, and booted up Absolute again, except this time, I was in a much more jovial mood.. but, it was late and I was tired, so I just played a few fun money SNG's...

And I played any two cards, as long as it was not raised more than the current min raise.... and I went from 5500 in play money to 26000..... imagine that..

I can safely say, that playing any two cards, from any position, no matter how much money in the pot, is much more exciting than playing... that other way..

short summary.

I finished 8th.... out of 70 pretty good showing.. I was way pleased with my play.... I also missed the first 10 minutes.. taking a nap.. didn't here the alarm.. missed two orbits.. not a huge deal..

I only was able to make it that far due to a very luck board.. my AJ vs an AQ
( forget who ).. board dbl paired, and our Ace kicker let us chop the pot.. otherwise, I was a goner... around 40th or so.. that was the the I really needed lady luck....

Got down to 13 and for a couple orbits I was in 7th place.. but, could not get any cards whatsoever.. stuff like 24 73 T6 all offsuit, and always someone jamming before my turn to act.. finally.. I get KK... the antes and the blinds make the pot about 1100, so I jam, cuz, now I am second to last in chips... no callers... next hand is QQ.. same thing... no callers.. I am back up to 7th in chips..

then the crap hands come again.. and were are down to 10.. the bubble... Wil is actually short stack but, takes down a couple pots.. one an all in and before you know it, he is up from like 1400 in chips to 11k in chips... I forget who bubbled... but, thank you cuz, that put me in the money.. second to last in chips again...

One player goes out.. I have to fold a couple times... get KQ, push... get a caller.. 55. lady luck was not looking my way this time... the 5's hold up... I am out in 8th...

Cash 31.50 for a nice 20 buck profit.......

tons of fun and I will be back next week for sure...

Finished 7th in an Absolute freeroll.. 2 bucks....

So, twice in two days, i make a it ITM... in MTT's with 1000's of players...

Maybe I should play while deathly ill more often.. NOT!

I'm ready to gambool again tho.. put some money into Stars and will be playing in tonights:

I got that 35 cents or so I won at Doyles ( hey, that was a big MTT freeroll as well ), up to $4.60 now, or so. Lost my roll on Poker Host, and also on Empire... that was free money as well..

Not as sick today as I had been the previous 3-4 days.. still not 100%... but, much bettre.. or it could be that eclair i just ate.. that always make a body feel bettre....

There is a $5k holiday freeroll at Doyles coming this saturday that I was lucky enuff to sign up for.. only took 1000 people... and I guess I was in the right place at the right time... cuz, I am in!!! ( I believe I will pretend it is one of the many $5.00 freerolls I play ). First place pays $1350... and I think it pays 27 places..... so... that would make for a nice christmas bonus....

I've been playing suited connectors alot more frequently.. if the price is right.. and altho I have no statistics.. I believe it has been good for me..

tried some micro limit ring games.. 1cent/2 cent and such.. manage to break even.. i don't get limit.....

Anyway.. played too tiny buy in sng's on doyle's... this gets boring.. just sit and wait till 3 people bust out.. then raise every time you decide to play.. rinse repeat.. took a second and a bubble.. ( its not a fullproof method )..

Got bored.. as stated.. knew I had like $5.70 on Empire Poker.. so, decided, since I really didn't care about that money, them giving it to me and all.. I would sit down at a $25.00 buyin ring game.. 6 max. I found a table with only 4 peeps and the highest chip count was $10.11... so.. I sit down.. so to speak..

Managed to get my roll up to $6.10 got bored, and still not caring about the cash.. joined a $5 SNG.. played really good poker too.. I was second to last in chip stack, with about 735.. found KK in the BB.. UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to T200... ( blinds are 50/100 ).. fold, fold, SB calls, I go all in.. raiser calls... SB folds.. the guy has J8offsuit.. Jclubs.. 8diamonds.. I don't have the K of clubs.. the flop is rag, club, club. turn is club.. river is club.. unbelievable.. I'm down to 135.. get crap til i'm UTG.. KQsuited.. clubs.. blinds are still 50/100 chipleader is to my left.. i'm all in.. fold, fold. raise to T235 from SB.. BB folds...

Is my KQ sooted good.. damn right.. he did his lil raise with 74sooted. diamonds..

I know there is no need for me to tell you how the board turned out...

I emailed Empire and asked them to send me a check for $0.10.. then promptly deleted their software...

There is no way I can completely describe the recent trip I took to Vegas to play in the WPBT Winter Classic II.. and to meet fellow bloggers... no matter how many entries in this journal I make... no way..

I'll try tho..

We had a naked man in the hallway, friday night, saturday morning.. we were awaken at about 2am by some very loud knocking and yelling.. the young man was hollering to his roommate to open the door.. his knocking was causing the entire floor to shake.. I stood for this for about 30 minutes.. I called the front desk.. I explained there was an apparent naked man out in the hallway, making lots of noise and disturbing our sleep.. they said they would send security.. in the meantime.. i got some clothes on and went on out there.... to find.. a young man, about 22 years old.. obviously drunk, wearing nothing but a pair of boxers.. I told him.. look, im sorry your locked out.. but, you have got to be quiet... he wanted to know what I would do if I were in his situation.. ( i didnt tell him that it would be highly unlikely that I would ever be in that situation, but, since, I wasn't 100% sure of this to be true, I kept my mouth shut ).. Security showed up.. got a quick summary of how the young man had stepped out for a second, and didn't have his key.. his roommate was passed out on the floor. the room was registered in his passed out roommantes name, so, front desk would not let him in.. if that was true, i do not know.. then the security guard started knocking loudly and yelling.. I said whoa whoa whoa.. i didn't call you so you could join in the noise making.. eithre let this guy in the room or take him away..

the guard didn't like that too much... told me to let him handle it... well, he didn't seem to be handling it too well.... then, from around the corner, came what to me, was obviously a call girl... that was my first impression anyway.. she asked me where room 137 was, which was the room with the passed out roommate, so, I pointed... there, with the naked guy and the security guard...

Then she told the naked guy.. 'Well, some one is gonna have to pay me'... and then i was pretty sure of her occupation after that.. ( she was hot by the way, for those interested ).

I have no idea what happened after that.. i went back to bed.. saw the guy in the morning and he just smiled.. no apology no nothing.... kids...

This is the car I would have bought, out of the couple 100 or so they had on display at the auto collection inside the Imperial Palace.., had I won a big enuff jackpot.... pretty neat place.. can get in for free easy enuff.. lots and lots and lots of cool cars... we spent at least an hour in there... and we aren't even car enthusiests...

I drank more alcohol in 4 days than i have all year long...

I met a couple crazy canucks...

Thats Marlene and Larry.. she won the 3pm $300 draw and got to stand in the wind machine and put as many bills in a lil slot as she could, in 45 seconds... she had to total more than $100 for it to count.. she cashed $174 bucks.. they were way cool.. they go to Vegas about 3 or 4 times a year..

more 'Back from Vegas'

I am going to take notes.. on the next trip... I think it is going to be mandatory..

There is just so much to write.... so much has been written... some by me, but, mostly by others.. and still yet, more to come.....

All the more common adjectives apply.. great, fantastic, unbelievable, fun, exciting.... it is a trip I hope to take several times before I die......

I did not participate in any of the extra blogger activities you will read about in the other write ups.. I only made it to the tournament on Saturday.. this was by choice... more than by chance.. April did call me several times to let me know where everyone was.. the timing was just off.. You see.. I am not as young as I used to be, and my companion, as beautiful as she is, is even more so not as young as we used to be.. so, altho we wanted to be up, about, and awake, for the entire 5 day trip.. our bodies forbade it... we each just pretty much shut down after about 14 hours...

We did have one heck of a time just checking out the strip on our own tho....

On Thursday, we pretty much just ate.. We ate at the Imperial Buffet for breakfast, and later that day for late lunch, early supper. We were quite stuffed.... We went back out on the strip Thursday night and checked it out even more... I forgot my camera, and alas, have no pictures to share.. she did bring hers, but, it is not a digital.. we are waiting for them to get developed...

The Saturday WPBT event was absolutely the most exciting poker related event I have ever been a part of... this is when I got to meet some bloggers for the first time.

( I'd show you some photos, but, alas, blogspot is being a prissy bitch )

From memory only:

I met Pauly, Derek, Joanne, Factgirl, StudioGlyphic, F Train, Linda, Wil, Otis, Iggy, Grubster, AlcantHang, Bill and several others I just do not remember...

I wanted to meet all the bloggers, I truly did... and I expect to, during all the future get togethers...

The tournament was nice to me... I finished 90th out of about 108 entries... I drew table 5 seat 10, which started me off on the button.. StudioGlyhic, our WPBT Winter Classic II champion, was seated to my right, and I can honestly tell you.. he looked nothing like the champion he turned out to be.. during the first few orbits of the tournament.. F Train was in seat 7... ( these are the only two I 'met' ). Studio because he was right there, and F Train busted me out.

Out table started out way tight... any raise would take the blinds.. 'any raise'.. and I tested that theory a couple times myself.. I made it thru the to the 1st break.. and when the blinds were at 100/200, I found KQs in middle to late position.. I raised 3xBB to 600.. everyone folded or had already folded cept for the Trainster... he thought a bit and put me all in.. ( he had me covered by about 500 or so ).. crap... I wanted to fold.. but, I had learned from play, from books, and from reading blogs.. DO NOT MAKE ANY HASTY DECISIONS so, I went to the tank.. Ftrain was prolly the most aggressive player at our table, and I was prolly the most tight... he knew I would not raise unless I had a strong hand, and I knew he was capable of bluffing, and or raising with anything from Ace sooted to mid pair... I was watching him as I was thinking.. and his vein in his neck was pumping furiously.. he would not look at me.. I put him on ATsooted, or a mid pair.. he took to long to raise, for a high pair.... I called...

My KQs found itself up agaisnt AQ... butthole... ;) I didn't mind the Ace so much, but, my Queen was dead.... I needed clubs, or a K... the entire board turned up red, if memory serves, and all 10 or less... i go get drunk now..

And did I ever get drunk...I went to eat when they got down to 3 tables.. ate there at their Pizza place.. best damn pizza I ever had in my life.. and I will never be so drunk as to not know when I am eating good pizza or not....

Got back when they were down to 4 or so... watched the HU match, and I was routing for She-Verb.. I actually picked her to win, way early on.. when she was short stacked... she almost came thru for me.. heh..

I missed the Shoot out in the Desert.....

My companion and I spent the rest of Saturday night on the Duece ( double decker strip bus ) (( never take the duece prime time saturday night, it takes forever )). We went to the M&M world.. 6 or so floors of M&M stuff... I bought one magnet for my fridge, my sole souvenier, aside from the photos and the memories... oh, and my big giant 46oz daiquiri cup..

We hung around the casino on Sunday, just relaxing and waiting for our shuttle back to the airport...

Neither of us wanted to leave.... it was bitter sweet...

Next trip.. I WILL play mixed games with which ever blogger I can find.. and I will beg April to help me out with this, again, promising to show up... :)

Back from Vegas

We made it back in one piece... we didn't want to leave.. and we certainly can not wait to go back... we had a heck of a time...

Now, if I were some sort of skilled blogger, I could take the time and patience that would be necessary to make a proper accounting of all that transpired in Vegas, from my perspective... and altho, all I would have to do, is just reach down into my lil bag of will power, and make the post happen, I just don't feel like it, plus.. there would be pages and pages and pages and pages...

So, I am just gonna wing it.. I didn't take any notes.. so, am going to rely on memory.... and since this is my plan of action.. let me start with what was a huge highlight for me during this trip...

I got to meet Pauly.. now, I don't look to him as some sort of Blogging God, or Journalistic celebrity... he just happened to decide to answer an email of mine about a year ago, that pulled me from a very not so happy place... and I got to thank him in person for that... so, nuff said about that.

Also, got to meet Barry Greenstien(sp), and he is a very humble person.. he gave a nice lil talk, before the tourney started...

And I also got to me Wil Wheaton... who is a genuinely nice person and was gracious enuff to let me take a couple photos... there is another photo of him listening to me go on and on about something or the other, I was quite drunk at the time, and my companion happened to be sober and took the picture... to me it looks as tho Wil is wondering, 'How drunk is this guy, and how can I can away from him'. heh.. he was so nice...

I figure if your gonna make a fool outta yourself, might as well be to a nice person...

Ours was a bit more, rustic:

We arrived about 10:30 pm Wednesday night and after getting from the Airport to the Hotel, and then checked in and finding out room, we went out and checked out the strip and played a few penny slots until about 3:30 in the morning.. my friend was way tired and I decided to take a nap.. I was up at 6:30 and ready to go again.. I went exploring while she got ready ( the 'she' variety of people generally take awhile to get ready ), so, I was able to pretty much explore the entire hotel and find out all the short cuts.. I mention this, because, from the front of the hotel to our room, was about 6 and 1/2 miles... once she was ready, we went and had breakfast at the buffet of the Imperial Buffet, located there in the same hotel and despite what I had read in the reviews, the food was damn good.. and they had tons of choices.. and an omelet bar. we tried a bit of everything....

Then we just walked up and down the strip, checking out the the other nearby casinos.. she was shopping.. I was looking for 9/6 video poker... occasionally we would throw a couple bucks into a penny slot, mainly to rest and to get a drink... at about 4pm or so, we made it back to the room and took a short nap.. and out back on the strip by 7:30.. we decided to walk north, cuz, earlier we walked south.. so, it only made since.. it was damn cold too.. we almost turned back.. but, had gotten fairly close to the Wynn.. decided to check it out..

Wow.

That place is amazing..... truly. Nothing I could type would do it justice..

They have marble stalls in the bathroom...

We finally made it back to the room around midnight.. somehow I had gotten a 46oz daguiri, and it was half full, or empty, and I remember being fairly toasted from all the other drinks... she was ready for bed, but I decided to go up to play some 1/2 NL.. well, I never made it to the elevator.. I took a few steps and not unlike one of those episodes from a twilight zone movie.. the hallway kept getting longer and longer.. I decided it prolly was not a good idea to make the trek up to the poker room and most likely lose all my cash.. and besides.. we had a Hoover Dam tour the next day.. had to be up bright and early..

So, I came back to the room, turned on the shower, de-clothed, and pretty much passed out/fell asleep in the tub. It was the only way I was going to be able to get up on time...

Hoover dam tour was incredible.. took all day and we were dog tired... once we got back.. took a short break.. then headed up to check out the Fremont Experience. my goal was to hit Binions and soak in what energy might be emanating from the WSOP champion photos they had on the wall.. we found Binions and we found the photos.. but, as I will attest to shortly.. not much energy made it my way...

So, that is Wednesday, and Thursday, and Friday.. brief and to the point.. Will come back latre with more about the Tourney, some pictures, some links to pictures, and some other fine things.. for instance..

Mamma, you got your shorts on backwards? ( Old man to apparently his wife, after she told him to be quiet )

Things I didn't expect to happen:
Being woke up at 2am by a naked man in the hallway.

How many times I busted out, randomly, with, 'Viva... Las Vegas'? More than several.

So, go read the other write ups.. they are all much bettre than mine... I have not read any yet, cuz, I didn't want anything to influence my stellar skills.. but, I am sure they are bettre than mine...

I met some fine people.. some I won't or don't remember, and I regret that...

Getting to be about that time..

This time tomorrow, I will be at the airport, patiently awaiting to board the plane that will fly me west, to Sin City.. it is my hope, that the view I see from the window as we gain altitude, is similiar to this:

I don't particulary think is all that good of a pic, but, 6 people that I showed it too, at different times, went all goo-goo ga-ga over it.... I suppose I am my own worst critic.. anyway.. I thought of a way to post it... so, I did...

One more day of work.. then back to the apartment to make sure I don't forget anything, then pick up my traveling mate, 30 minutes early, make sure they don't forget anything, then off to the airport... should be in Vegas in about 26 hours or so......

Don't want to be here. Can not get my mind wrapped around the issues I will be leaving behind for others to deal with.

Edit: Edit:: ( 8am )Today,somehow, I need to put myself in a frame of mind such as:

1) Going to Las Vegas for the first time;
2) Meeting folks that enjoy poker as much or more than I do;
3) Possibly meeting Professional Poker Players;
4) Playing in (for me) a huge tourney;
5) Being away from work for one week;

is no big deal, because otherwise... it is going to be a very, very... loooong day.

Edit: ( 11:15am ) half way done... even got permision to leave early due to the inclement weather.. which bothers me... there is an ice and sleet warning for the counties north of us... but so far, the weather is holding here in Austin.. I won't really know how SW Airlines deals with the weather til this evening.. but, like I said, this inclement weather bothers me more than it normally would.

It occurred to me, a moment or two ago, I am gonna have a hella heck of alot of email when I get back...

Movies

I watched 3 movies since Thursday..

Be Cool - much bettre than some of the reviews I read led me to believe.. good thing for Travolta and clan, I don't hold much stock in what the critics say... Together again with Uma was just as good if not bettre than their Pulp Fiction movie.. The Rock was WAY WAY WAY out of character as a Gay bodyguard.. He frequently made me laugh.. quite enjoyable... worth a rent...

11:14 - this movie is one story that lasts about 20 minutes.. but, it is told from several different perspectives.. and this is way cool.. the cast is pretty durn phenomenal.. Patrick Swayze, Henry Thomas, Rachael Leigh Cook, Barbara Hershey.... anything I might say about this movie would not do it justice.. it is well worth a rent.... you won't regret renting it...

House of D - wow.. I was truly suprised.. this movie is written and directed by David Duchovney(sp).. yeah, good ol Fox Muldur from X-Files.. he also plays the main character as a grown up, but just briefly in the beginning, then just a lil bit more than briefly in the end... the true 'stars' of the movie are Anton Yelchin and Erykak Badu Tea Leoni ( wife of David D. ) has a fine performance as the mother, which is kinda wierd since they are married and all, but, only if your think about it too long.. its a coming of age story about a young 13 year boy growing up in NY city, dealing with different types of loss. Robin Williams plays a mentally retarded man, age 41, best friend of the main character ( Yelchin ). Pretty darn good performance, especially the airline ticket counter scene.. Its an independant film, put together in a short period of time, on a small budget, and I cried.. so there ya go.

Slayre Claims Victory in Local Poker Tourney

There really is not a whole lot to blog about here with this tourney... everyone played pretty tight the first two rounds.. blinds at 10/20, then 15/30.. after the first break, blinds now at 25/50, and Justin and Adam start playing a bit more agressively.. altho, it was pretty much blind stealing...

I don't recall raising at all, myself, until the 4th round, 50/100, I am in the BB and there are 2 limpers and the SB completes.. I look down and see QQ, so I quickly compute that there is already T400 chips in the pot, so I raise T300, to T400.. they all folded...

I stole a couple 3 or 4, maybe 5 or 6 pots with absolutely nothing.. just took advantage of position and some tells I had picked up..... I think Adam and Justin were doing the same thing...

Poor April.. I don't think she got any playable cards the whole evening... she got down to pretty much short stack and ended up ALL IN vs Mel, she held K4 suited, and he had AQ suited, different suits.. the flops gives April the nut flush and she doubles up... bit latre, she is ALL in with Adam, and altho she is slightly ahead, the board cards are more favorable to Adam.. April is the first out... she graciously volunteered to deal for the rest of the evening...April is a very fine player, the cards just did not fall for her this night.

Mel was the next out.. taken out by Adam as well, or perhaps Justin.. I do not recall for sure.. he kept getting decent cards, but just could not connect with the board at all... he was the second one out.. 4 players left..

Lori, was the third out, Justin sucked out with two pair.. she had limped in with AA and since he was in the BB, he was able to check his weak K3... flopped a K and rivered a 3...

That leaves Slayre, Adam, and Justin.. Adam is short stack, and Justin and Me are about even, with Justin prolly slightly ahead.... Adam went out 4th, losing to Justin, and giving Justin a 3 to 1 chip advantage over me.... I folded 73 from SB, for the 1st hand of the HU match.. suprising April, who stated.. 'your folding at heads up'.. I said sumtin like,, " you really can't play every hand HU'... and followed that with, 'At least that is what Phil Gordon says.. '.. not sure how that went over.. ;)

Very next hand.. I hold T2.... BB.. Justin completes from the SB, and I check.. flop is T73.. Justin bets T300, and I raise T300 to T600. Justin calls. I forget how events went on the turn, I know it was less than the T and there was no flush possible and a vague str8... I think he bet T500.... making the pot at about 2k.... I counted my stack, T2300, and went all in with my Top Pair, very weak ass kicker. Justin goes to tank for a bit, decides I am bluffing, or at least semibluffing, and calls me... he turns over 75.. he does not improve and I double up.

And then we chopped.. we both knew we would be there for awhile and him and Adam had plans... so, chopping was the best option, $90.00 win for each.. We did play one last hand, all in, just to see..

I had A8d, he had JcJh. Flop was rag, rag, diamond.. turn is 3d..... river is Jd.. I would have taken the rest of his chips with the flush....

The quote of the night..... I guess would be.. Adam had made a comment about me and my chip lead... and then Lori said, 'yeah Joe..??..? is it Joe?' I said, 'its John, but you can call me Joe if it helps.'

To which Justin said, 'As long as you preference it with "Chipleader". '

We all got a good chuckle out of that......

It was a fun time and it was great to see April and Adam again, and to meet more Austin poker players for the first time... I hope I get to play with them again soon.

Adam was as usual, a most gracious host.

Wow.. seems like just yesterday I was making a 'Less than a month' entry..

Honestly, I thought that the time between then and now, would pass grueling slow.. but it has not.. at least, not as grumesome as I imagined.. this time next week, I will be in Vegas with one of my bestest friends, both of us wondering, ''ok, what now?'' heh.. I truly hope to meet Pauly/
He has been a postive influence in my life, more than he knows, and thanking him in person, well... it would be keen.

Want to thank Pauly's brother as well, for teaching me how to play Razz......

Bloggers I have met.. that I am pretty sure are going.. April, ScottMc, CJ, PokerPrincess, so, if when ya'll see me, don't be running the other way... I promise not to take all your money.. ;)

I think some others from austin may be going, but, I am not sure...

I called Imperial Palace Poker Room and found out that they have a 1/2 NLHE table or two running pretty much all the time, and that is the level I will be most comfortable with... also, reading some of different sites out there that talk about poker rooms in Vegas and what not, most say the games at IP are pretty soft... I have never actually played a live ring game before, with total complete strangers as opponents... so, I am sure it will be exciting... I plan to sit down out a table while my friends takes my luggage to the room and then goes to get me a drink.. ha ha.. ( she won't go for that, but, I thought it would be funny to type.. )

I got my lil bankroll on Doyle's up over a dollar now.. its pretty much a crap shoot there... I tend to fold AQ on down, when people are all in... seems to be a pattern.. just wait for 3 or 4 to bust out, then you can start playing poker... I usually just sit out til that time... whatever works, right?

Been reading Dan Harringtons book.. Vol I. almost down with it.. Excellent read.. I like his style.. and I like how he makes comparisons between online play and live play... he also talks alot about SNG's, which I tend to play more than MTT's, and everything I read has been helpful.. I highly recommend this book. granted, there are some things in there that I already knew.. but, he has a way of explaining WHY I should know it.... kinda like, "oh, now wonder I do that".

Will be getting Vol II after the Vegas jaunt. ( well, that is the plan anyway )

Also got Mike Caro's book of tells, and I will prolly try to read and finish this one on the airplane... have it fresh in my mind, so to speak.. I got free drink coupons from Southwest, so, not sure how that plan will work out.. reading and drinking don't mix....

Whelp, going to see a christmas procession or sumtin now, at St. Edwards... not entirely sure what it is, but, all the grandkids are gonna go, so, its a no brainer for me..... camera camera camera.. can't forget it..

My plane takes off at 8pm, week from tomorrow.... arrives in Vega$ at 9pm, Nevada time... I like to pretend it is time traveling...

I accidently joined a (.10 + .01) turbo SNG on Doyles the other day, and actually won it.. .35 cents richer there..( meant to join a regular SNG ) but, how did I get the .11 cents to play in the first place.. since we all know I have no money on any site, pretty much... let me tell ya..

...I accidently joined a $5.00 TURBO FREEROLL MTT on Doyles, and took like 8th or 9th outta 199 entrants to cash .35 cents. The turbos they have, the blinds go up every minute or every three hands.. I really couldn't tell.. I played tight til I finally got a hand with 3/4 my original stack.. all in with 4 or so callers, I took the nice pot.. waited.. rinse.. repeat..

I really haven't played much poker worth blogging about.. lately.. seems like ever since I made the decision to make the Vegas trip, all my money is put aside.. for the trip... which is fine.. but this aspect makes me wish it was past the trip, so I can start building my bankroll again.. or at least, see if I want to get serious about it again... I am after all, having a perfectly good time playing with free money... and/or play money.... right now I have:

PokerTime - 7 bucks
Doyles - .58 cents
Party Poker - .06 cents
UB - .03 cents

I might have a few cents on PokerRoom as well...

Prison Break is still a damn good show, and last night was the season finale.

Oh, I have a question... I am pretty sure drinks in Vegas are free if your gambling.. does this include gambling at the poker tables, and does water/coffee/coffee with Baileys count as a 'drink'?

Badugi is fun which reminds me.. I might put a bit of money in at Doyles to take advantage of the folks that play it without fully understanding the game, could easily make a few bucks there...

Got a live tourney coming up this friday.. and all I have to do is not go out first, to improve from how I did the last time.. :)

I managed to make it into the Doyle's Room Thanksgiving $5000 thank you freeroll. Early this morning, I logged in to check out when the registration started.. and low and behold, it had already started.. there were 998 people and once I clicked the right buttons, I became number 999. Apparently, I made it in by the hair of my chinny chin chin...... only 999 entrants for this one... yay me..

27 places pay, with top prize being...$1350. 19th thru 27th get $50. Starts at 8pm CST tonight

I played in an Empire $500 freeroll, turbo type... yesterday.. cashed in 180th(bubble was 181) place for .40 cents....

Played in a $1.00 MTT, 117 people, I finished ITM for $1.30. Now, these results are no where near as good as CJ's, but, for me, they are as exciting.. heh...

Got the $10 free money from PokerTime up to $20.00. Gonna play bigger stakes now... I've been playing .05/.10 ring games, 6 max.. and pretty much folding 80% of the hands.. taking down the big pots with strong hands... seems to be working.. hopefully will work for me at the .10/.20 level.

Have you been watching Prison Break, on FOX? Its a pretty good show, and I think they might actually break out next Monday.. which is the day it airs.. It is one of the few shows I make a point to watch.. network shows anyway..

I quit watching Amazing Race whence the Gahgans were eliminated, and personal stuff has kept me from seeing the last couple Survivors, but, I am pretty sure Steph is still in it... Not sure if it is on tonight.. it being Gobble Gobble day and all....

Less than 2 weeks til the Vegas trip.. and I am getting burnt out on being so excited about it.. heh... imagine that...

My friend won this as a door prize during a bingo game.. ( she didn't win any bingo money ). She is going with me to Vegas... we thought it was pretty cool, that this particular hat would be one of the door prizes.. and it was Church bingo no less. got to be some message there.. She also found me a t-shirt that has a pair of queens on the front, and it says 'ladies man'.

i figured out poker... at least for me.. unfortunately, it involves alcohol, and the is always a lose situation...

i also passed out at work today and they called the first responders.. ie, employees trained in the basic EMT stuff,,, my back is in perpetual pain and i believe the pain got so unbearable, my body gave out.. i went to the doctor and he pretty much said, it is possible..

i wrote some notes on these things i figured out about poker, but, I am drunk and I cant read them, or, i was drunk when I wrote them and i cant read my writing.. or a combination of the two.

The limits for holdem were too rich for my blood ( 3/6 and up ), and the blackjack tables were full...

I could not find a Video Poker machine, but, I was not going to leave there with out at least a lil gambling... I quickly gambooled one dollar away on a nickel slot... and then put $5.00 into another... called "BattleShip".

So, I had 100 credits.. each credit = .05cents, and on the first 'spin', playing 3 lines @ 1 credit each, I hit sumtin or the other for 70 credits. woo hoo, quick math tells me, that is $3.50. but, it is still too soon to leave, so, I keep playing this machine and get down to about 129 credits..when, I hit sumtin or the other that took me to the bonus round... I picked 1 of 5 flags to give me a multiplier of 100 vs my bet ( 1 credit ), and now I had 229 credits, or $11.45.

So, I took my cash and left...

Just ended up getting me more stoked for Vegas...

Less than a month

So, not much poker of late.... did finish my hand requirements on Empire.. they gave me 10 bucks to play with, could keep whatever was left after 300 raked hands.. I finished with 16 bucks... wasn't much in a mood to play.. was down to 3 bucks with 50 hands left to play and I hit a nice rush...

Look what I found at Wal-Wart:

$3.00 each. They were marked at $6.99, and I was just gonna get the black one and the red one.. but, once I got to the checkout, they rang up at 3 bucks.. so, I went and got the beige and blue one...... nice hats.. not top notch quality, but still far from the cheapos.... I am pleased..

About to go out of town, to a lil city which is close to Eagle Pass, so, I might hit the Casino there.. if there is time... we shall see....

over half the hands i need to complete my requirement for raked hands on Empire, to receive the 10 dollars, they graciously gave me, are complete.. and, my balance is at 11 bucks or so.. playing strictly ring games.. which i suck at. cuz, i play with 'scared money'..

the reason I am still playing and the reason I have more than the ten dollars they gave me.. is because, i know i play with scared money.. so, i made a concious effort to play hands i would not normally play.. exercise in mind over money.. i would do things like.. what would i do if this were a freeroll on Absolute.. and basically.. it is a free roll. just on empire and not on absolute...

so, ive won hands with 64o ( credit Scottmc for those ).... and also AA.. and even bettre.. 89s.. which I learned was the ultimate crack de force to wired aces..

today.. I spent some time at the 14th annual Native American Powwow, here in Austin.. by myself, which is a big deal, if ya'll could read my 1 year post which is traditional, which, I didn't publish.. anywy.. im an introvert for sad reasons.. that is the short story..

they burn alot of sage, which apparently, I am allergic to... so, I couldn't stay too long...

Miss the WWdn and the pauly and prolly miss the rini tomorrow as well.. maybe next week

I played poker long enuff on Empire last night to lose 4 dollars.. I got over 100 raked hands tho.. outta the 300 I need.. heh.. I was playing more agressive than usual.... down to 5.85 big dollars.. I only had an hour, so, I really wasn't into it..

Missed Survivor last night.. and have not yet read the synopsis on the CBS site, but, I hope Steph is still alive.. On Amazing Race, the Gahgans were eliminated, so, I really have no more reason to watch that show...

The reason I missed Survivor, is because I went to see an IMAX movie..

Pretty neat.

I had a pretty good Karma moment yesterday evening as well. was with my ex and her grandkids, as we took them to the IMAX movie... but, before, we went to eat and the waitress was truly phenomenal.. so, I tipped here much more than I would normally tip....8 bucks for a 34 dollar check... once we got tho the theatre, which is actually part of a museum, we had about 45 minutes until the show started.. I told the ticket lady that the boys wanted to see the exhibits, ( entrance to the museum proper is like 5 bucks for adults and 3 bucks for the two kids, so, it would have been 16 bucks ) and I had to tell them we really didnt have enuff time to see the whole museum properly and we could do it another time... so, she went and gave me free passes. That was pretty cool...

We were able to see most of the first floor and part of the second before the movie started...

I am trying to decide if I should use some of my Vegas funds to play in all the, sure to be fun tourneys on PokerStars and FullTilt this weekend... I know I would be there in a heart beat, if Vegas wasn't an issue.. heh how ironic is that..
