Alot of Poker

I played alot of Poker yesterday, Sunday.. from about 10am til about 11pm....and I came out ahead.... I am at $115 on UB, from $25 I put in about 2 or 3 weeks ago..been making 20-40 dollars each time I play, plus starting 2 tabling ring games to work the bonus off faster, even 2 tabled .50/1.00 tables, instead of my usual .25/.50. Completely different game. More to my liking... I even played poker at these tables, instead of being stingy while working the bonus off.. if they were suited, and you could make a straight with three more cards, I played them.... I won alot of money with these ring games... I would prolly be up over $200 dollars, had I not lost so many SNG's on the bubble... it was very exciting, for me, to put my lil dollar in the pot, with 23s, and have 332 show up on the flop... then get paid off. I know this is short term stuff, and I know it pisses people off.. but, I figured, as long as I had more than $25.00, I was ahead... more times than not, I ended up folding after the flop.... this style did not work to particulary well with the SNG's.. I don't expect it to work too well the next time I play eithre...

I went to play in a live tourney at Baby A's.. hosted by the APL.. but, they have been cancled there, deemed illegal.. sigh. Supposed to be a live tourney at Razoo's tonight, hosted by same people... not sure tho, if they have had their plug pulled as well...

Last night, I made about 6 bucks, from three hands in a row.. playing .50/1.00..

first hand, Im in BB, everyone folds to me... I am up .50. I had 63o or some crap.
second hand, me SB, 2 callers, I call, BB checks. everyone checks to me, I bet $2.00 with my 87s, everyone folds. I am up $3.50 now.
third hand, button. 1 caller. I bet $2.00 with my AA. they all fold.. 6 bucks... just like that...

Then someone typed, 'You won't get away with that forever'.. LOL...get away with what I replied.... bluffing like that, every hand, they answered. I was about to answer, when someone more eloquent than I typed... 'shut up idiot, he only played two hands, prolly only bluffed one of them'.

I wish I had opted to show my AA instead of not... but then, may not have gotten the lively conversation.

Played alot of freerolls too.. did fairly well, never ITM, but usually finish in top half... finished 19th outta 1500 on Absolute, playing in a WSOP freeroll.. this was for a chance to play in another tournament where the prize is a trip to 'watch' the WSOP. Top 9 advance.. I was like 4th in chips.. got sucked out... never recovered...took forever... lot of beef jerkey, rc cola, and pall malls..... they only give 5 minute breaks... most sites only give 5 minute breaks... not enuff time for standard biology needs....

My current bankrolls:
Party Poker $3.20
Ultimate Bet $115.00

I am not gonna transfer any money, this time, cuz, every time I do, I end up losing it all on both sites.... I don't have to pay rent for March, since it is my 13th month, free according to Lease... so, I can augment UB and reload on Party. And I will keep trying to win the freerolls on AB and Pokerroom.

Does anyone ever fold a good starting to cards preflop, simply because you won the last 3 or 4 hands in a row and you just know someone is gonna challenge you big time and you will end up losing all that you just won, so, it is best to just fold them now, before you put any money into the pot? or am I alone in my idiocy?

I folded AJs, in a SNG, just won like 3 hands... and I was on the button, UTG raised, everyone called to me... I folded... didn't really want to... felt like raising...... turns out... flop, QQK turn 10 now I am cussing, cept, they are all red, 3 hearts.. river is 4 hearts or the like... ok, now I know my st8 would have been beat... by the flush.. whew, good lay down John... there are 2 players left now.. both all in... the initial raiser, KQclubs... other guy..Ahearts, Jclubs.

I don't remember the betting on the flop, prolly lot of checking... big bet on the turn, which I prolly would have called and then folded on the river with the 4 flush on the board.. instead, I didn't even play it, and went from chip leader at about T1200, to second in chips... since, Mr FH up there dbled up....

Next hand, I got AJs again... ( I love online play ), and this time I raised to steal the blinds, since everyone folded in front of me... MR Dbl upper, challenged me and when the flop was KJJ.. I felt pretty good... he checked, i checked. turn is rag. check/check. river is A. No way am I gonna get him to call... no mattre what I bet....he checks... I have J's over A's and he needs to have KK to win this hand... I doubt he has anything... BB syndrome I guess... but I decide to make him pay to see my cards.... I bet 2XBB. Does he call? No. He raises.. 2XBB more.. WHAT!?! Does he have the KK? Is he just trying to make me think he has the KK? Surely he would have bet something....let me rewind and recall his play... yup, he almost always raised with any pair... any Ax even... did he ever reraise? Argh.. I can't recall.. hasn't been that many hands anyway..... what to do, what to do... calling would be prudent... but, perhaps, he has KJ.. ah, now, that would pay me off... perhaps he has Q10... I dbl the current bet...(re-reraise, as they say).. now, someone types, wow... I just see it through my periph vision.... normally right now, I would want him to fold... but this time, I want him to raise or go all in, eithre way... I am all in.... He goes all in..... I immediately call....

he had 89s. Diamonds..

Then, he types.. 'nh'.

I am like, wtf?!?!?! I typed.. I didn't put you on that at all..... he thought I would cave with the big bet..... stated, "That was stupid of me". Well, yeah....

At about 10pm.. thinking I had $130, and looking at my account and seeing $115.. I decided it was time to quit...cuz. I too, was playing stupid..

April has a really cool idea about referring randomish blogs and maybe one day she will find me worthy.. :)

Woo Hoo

Gosh I Hope I can make this....

WPBT Live Event!!!

Drinking and poker

I was playing the other night and drinking a bit.. and after a few beers.. my game was, um, less than stellar... playing hole cards I would not normally play and such.. part of it was I had just won 25 bucks in a $5 SnG and 'felt' I had some free money to play with...

On UB, it seems I have perpetual bonus money to work off... and the way I 'try' to do it is by playing a 10 seated NL .25/.50 ring game... playing only the top hands... depending on pot and position.... this works good for me... as usually, I make about 2-3 dollars bonus money and end up breaking even.. last few nights tho, I've been 5 or so dollars ahead.... Wednesday night... being a lil on the tipsy side and feeling a lil cocky, I played a hand I would not normally play, while working off a bonus..:

Now, I know this is not a bad starting hand, and I pretty much always play it in a tourney, especially to an unraised pot.. but working off a bonus, I tend to be stingy with the few coins I have to play with....

With the callers before the flop, 2.25 in the pot... I recall thinking, 'John, its only .50 cents, your gonna put that in on a small pocket pair sooner or latre.. just skip playing the next small pp you get'.. so, I called my QJo preflop, knowing I would have folded to a raise.. easy...

Then, we see the flop.. the glorious flop.. what can beat me at this point???? I ask myself.. I have top two pair... pocket 4's, Q's, or J's, pretty much it at this point..also a possible straight draw out there.... Q's and J's most likely would have raised.. lets over bet the pot, just a tad, get the good players out, keep a maniac or two in... perfect plan...

The turn.. a 6. so now, pocket 6's can beat me.. now another straight draw, still poor flush draw.. what to do, what to do.. $9.75 in the pot.. me adds up quickly, I'll bet this strong, only the winning hand will stay with me, and yay for them...

The river... kapow! A Jack... how sweet... I've a full boat... now, what can beat me.. no flush, no straight, no set, no top pair(s)... what beats me is, QQ, right.. just the one hand? Let me look again..AQ, no, we know that, KQ, no... I have the jack to prevent JJ... all in I go... if Rhonda has QQ, shame on her for playing it the way she did.. ( lol ).

Slayre wins a nice size pot... takes a drink... folds 3 hands... loses half his stack with a straight being beat by a full house... broke even. heh.

Had I not been drinking.. I prolly would have seen the paired board and got out of the hand... then again, I prolly would not have called with QJo eithre...

Played $5 SnG's while in the ring game... ended up about 20 bucks ahead.....

Patience and discipline.. I am discovering it is not just about being patient for the cards to come, or disciplined to lay down K's if you think the A on the board paired someone..... its also about being patient waiting for you headache to go away, patient waiting for a good bit of sleep before playing, disciplined to not drink or talk on the phone or watch tv or play solitaire, while playing...I've discovered, that while I sit there and 'watch' what is going on, who is doing what, when they are doing it, my game vastly improves.... example..

There was this guy in a ring game that constantly min raised the bet each and every time I had the big blind... this was becoming annoying... so, I thought about it.. and I decided, he had prolly decided since I was so tight, I would fold to any bet and was taking advantage of the easy blind steal.... so, the next time I was in the BB, sure enuff, he min raised.. I happened to have A10s... not a bad hand to call, and I was still close to my $25 buyin, so, I dbl min raised his ass right back..... he folded...and typed, Good Bet.. :) I remember thinking, yeah yeah.. I'm nobodys beetch! and thinking, wish that had been a 72o, so I could have showed it... :)

I think the only people that beat me at poker, are those that are bettre than me.. which on the surface, seems like a stupid redundant statement... I say it because, that is fine.. as long as they are bettre they should win... the opponent I have the most problem with, is myself... I beat myself all the time, and I truly believe it is due to the fact that I do not have the patience and/or discipline to succeed at consistantly winning money at poker.. ( not to mention a proper bankroll, but then, i would prolly just go broke faster.. lol ) I like freerolls, because I can learn, experiment a bit...but, they take so long.. I start getting bored after a couple hours, if I last that long, and end up outta the money..

Oh heck, I am just typing what everyone already knows.. and I am sure are experiencing it, or have experienced it...

Peace all

Volunteer. NOW!

VICTORY Tutorial Program - Volunteers Needed

The VICTORY Tutorial Program is an Austin Independent School District program, which focuses on economically disadvantaged students who are
struggling with their schoolwork. Tutoring takes place at seven branches of the Austin Public Library. VICTORY would like members of Austin to help serve these students. VICTORY relies entirely on volunteers to help students from local elementary, middle and high schools. VICTORY students may be struggling with a variety of subjects, but there is a particular high demand for tutors who can assist in the following areas, for one hour each week for a commitment of a semester:
1. Elementary Math and Reading
2. High School Geometry and Algebra
3. Bilingual: Spanish-English
Contact 974-7317 for more information and locations.

Posted this for any of the Austin Bloggers that read me... and think they may be interested... If you have never volunteered for anything, I highly suggest it.. it is so very rewarding, on several levels..... I know not math at all...and my Spanish is way below the bilingual level.... call the number if your interested...

Gone, Gone, Gone

Saturday night.. late... had a couple three beers in me.. not in the best of moods...

Lost all my winnings playing NL SNG's..... took awhile to lose it all, as I won a few....somehow....

Ah well... was not like it was 'my' money.....

I did win a live tourney Saturday night.. before I went home and lost online... went to play and got there late, but a friend had some family arrive and needed to sit out, so, they let me take his spot... only 35 bucks in the prize money... paying 1 and 2... I won it for him.... played liked every hand was pocket aces....and it felt pretty good to know more about poker than those I was playing....

He too his 25 bucks winnings and gave me 5 of it...... I didn't expect any... so that was cool... was fun just to win it...

Today is Valentines day..... I suppose Im supposed to get something nice for my girlfriend... I will be giving up my regular poker playing on monday night at Razoo's.. but, I have been told, that particular sacrifice will not be enough... her daughter suggested I get her a deck of cards.. and at first that seemed like a wonderful idea... ofcourse, upon further pondering... I concluded, that this is prolly not the right Valentine's for a deck of cards... it's our first... perhaps a chip set....

I played some damn good poker last night.... won .60 at the blogger table.. even tho no one knew who the hell I was, sans April, and i was not even trying to win, was just smoozing with the poker babe... ended up +30 bucks at PP..... I know this cuz i put 50 in, and I took 50 out and my balance is 31.96....or so....

anyway..... did well at all sites i played at... pretty much every loss was a due to a suck out... and I have a theory on MTT's, which I may share, if I remember it

The hand above..... is my new MONTHLY What would you do?

I only put money in PP cuz some friend of mine signed up via my affiliate.. heh...

3 straights in a row?

yep, that is how I won the second tourney last night at Baby A's.

APL hosts 2 tourneys there on Wednesday night, 6pm and 9pm.

I didn't do very well in the first tourney, which is why I played in the second tourney.... nothing remembered from first tourney.. played too agressive and it cost me...

Second tourney... after about 4 hands of folding.... I got AJ, flopped a straight... medium size pot... then Q10, flopped a straight.. huge pot.. took a player out...then KQ Ace on turn gave me a straight, no flush draw, but there were 2 Jacks on board and my opponents were betting aggressively.. one I knew bets hard with bottome pair, wasn't worried about her... the other was a good player tho.... TP A.... 3 jacks he had... whew... thought he might have had a FH... he was in position tho.. checked on the river... I bet 2k into 8k or so pot.. he called.. so did the maniac.... monster win for me with the straight....

then it was pretty much dead hands from then on... never played another until my last hand.....blinds were 2k/4k... I had 8k, UTG.... just went all in blind.. figured 8th place was good points.. certainly bettre than 9th... and it was late...

one caller.... some anal retents wanted me to flip my cards... i refused.. saying its a free tourney, no one actually paid to see my cards.... they relented... caller had A8s ( hearts ).. board was sumtin like... 2 3 4 3 9 raining hearts eithre... so, now, i turn over one card... Jclubs.... not bad... I got 6 outs... just need my second card to be a j or pair the board... slow roll it.... Qclubs.... ah well.... neat thing is.. I would have done the same thing had I looked at them.... the caller knew this and said had I looked at my cards and did it, he might not have called.. ( ya, right ).. then another said, well, if you hadn't of called, I would have with my 4's.... and yada yada.... all I wanted was the 6k blinds in the pot.... was happy with the all in blind.
