The Poker Millionaire Challenge
They are providing hundreds of free roll seats into their Main Event to be held at Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, April 2006. The Poker Millionaire Challenge has an estimated 2.5 Million-Dollar Prize Pool, making this the largest free roll payout in history.
It is very simple to sign up, go to PMC05 and follow the registration process. When you sign up the form will ask you for the name of the person who referred you please put my screen name Slayre in that place. By putting my name in there I will get an extra free roll credit and I would be very appreciative of your help. There are no fees or requirements of any kind to sign up.

Is 22% considered luck?
The guy was all in at the flop, so, there was nothing to do but watch.. I calculated at the river, about 22% of hitting an out.. ( using the 4 2 rule ).. basically, I just needed to pair the board..which I did. Not sure why they were so suprised.

Poker Princess Invitational
Had a grand time... met the Poker Princess.. met CJ... met Gus and met Kat...
Scott and April were there and ofcourse, our gracious host, Adam...
I didn't win any money..but, I was very pleased with my play thru out the entire evening.... there are only a couple hands I wish to post about...
The first hand... I'll talk about.. is the one that knocked me out of the tourney... short story is, April had AA and I had TT, all in, she had me covered and I did not improve... the lil bit longer story is I convinced myself she had 72o. How you might ask? Instead of saying I was stupid, lets just say I outsmarted myself.. Blinds were 30/60 at this point. I am pretty sure I was in the BB, because Kat was between us and she had already folded... anyway.. Kat folds UTG, April bets like 255, and it folded around to me.. I'm looking at TT and start figuring that she is eithre trying a hammer move, or she has AA... those were the only two hands I put her on.. I decided, her bet was two big for AA, based on the hour or so we had already been playing... I decided this was a very good opportunity for me to double up and eithre have the chip lead, or be close.. I decided TT was good enuff, and instead of reraising, like most good poker players would do... I mean, it wasn't like I was short stacked ( Scott ) or anything, infact.. I was doing pretty well.. considering the level of skill ( all bettre than me ) I found myself up agaisnt... but, no, I push all in and she calls, before I even finish saying the word 'in'. Doom! I am doomed!!! Sure enuff, AA.. I didn't improve.. and now I get to deal...
The other hand.. ugh.. I made a huge mistake, not sure if anyone even noticed it.. but.. anyway.. It was during the cash game.. err, the dealers choice rounds we decided to play. and we were playing Maigreys choice of PLOH. I'm not sure if that acronym is correct.. Pot Limit Omaha.. so, if you read my previous post about this tourney, you know I was pretty drunk.. but, that did not effect me making the mistake.. It was me and CJ.. I held 8774 the flop showed A25 I think I made a min bet and CJ called. ( he has notes. and bettre memory, so if he posts about it, his is more accurate ). Turn is 3. Giving me the straight.. and a 6 on the rive would give me 7 high straight.. most likely the nuts ( I never saw the diamond draw, btw, CJ ). I bet the pot, about 4 bucks.. and he immediately calls pot and puts 12 bucks out there on top of my 4.. ( actually put like 32, but that was way way much and we got it all sorted ). So, I pretty screw up and give my hand away by stating.. 'Damn.. you got 64'. Then I spent about 5 minutes trying to put him on anything else but 64 and I just couldn't do it.. so, I called any damn way.. He had an A, 6, 4, and I don't recall the other card... which didn't matter anyway.. I figure that while I was trying, outloud, to put him on a hand, I said sumtin like, I got the straight and if you have 6 I'm screwed... pretty much blowing any chance for a bluff, which might have worked, had I noticed the diamond draw and not opened my mouth.. None of that had anything to do with why I called tho.. It was just a whole heck of alot of fun.. ( besides.. I saw him bluff once.. heh ).
I'm down to like 4 bucks from 20.. but cash out with 11.. so.. I'm sure I could of spent alot more money elsewhere and have alot less fun...
For those that were there.... it has been years since I have uncontrollaby snorted thru my nose while laughing.... this was a good thing in itself...
I'm coming up on one year of blogging and trying to decide if I should follow tradition and make some sort of life story post... or just skip it all together...
finally, i am so stoked for Vega$.. even more so now....

I was the oldest, by far, there, and am pretty sure the only grandparent.
I had forgotten about Gus saying "That is the sound of losing", which I think brought on my first snorting..
CJ promised to check the river, when he took my 20 or so bucks, and he did.
Everyone was late, except for me, altho, I was sure I was going to be.. Adam don't count, as he lives there.
Somebody sprung for some pizza, and I indulged, thank you very much. .it was good.
When people were talking about Vegas, I never knew if it was the dog, the dog, or the town.

Answer to Chad & other stuff

A few questions to end this, and hopefully satiate my curiousity.
1. If you're participating in your first WPBT event, how are you feeling right about now? (looks like about 20 or so newbies, not sure any are reading this right now)
This is my first major event, and certainly my first out of town event, but, it is also my first trip to Vegas. I am stoked.. I have been asking my highly technical and extremely talented supervisor to figure out a way to make December get here quicker.. He is working on it as we speak.
2. How did the rest of you feel before attending your first WPBT? How about after?
My first WPBT live event was the Inaugural Austin Invitational. I had already met April from ThisIsNotAPokerBlog, and ScottMc, from DeadMoneyInc, and I had been keeping up with most of the Austin bloggers. I was still rather nervous about meeting these people, and to make matters worse, I had a God awful hangover.. the only person I actually remember putting Face-to-Blog, was our host, Adam.. oh, and Ryan, the young college student, Building his BankRoll.
I felt like crap after, cuz I finished out of the money. I went out with AQs, at the final table, just like Phil Ivey has done, several times on the World Poker Tour, so, the fact that I was able to compare myself to such a feared poker player… well, really didn’t do crap to ease the pain of going out couple places shy of the money.
But, I did have fun, and Adam was/is a most gracious host.
I remember Lindsey too, but, she doesn’t have a blog.. she didn’t really need a blog for me to remember her.
3. Be honest, how many of you even knew who I was before June? Ok, don't be honest. See if I care.
Never heard of you before about 3 or 4 days ago when I was looking to add to my blogroll.
Survivor yay my girl Steph is still alive and well.. woo hoo!!!!
Amazing Race - Gahgan's are still in it, wish I could report they are going strong, but they came in next to last again..

Poker Stars Blogger Invitational
4:20pm decided to blog this made it thru to the first break with apprx 2000 chips, which is what we started with.. nothing spectacular happened.. maigrey was at my table, and I think she got tired of being cold decked and was busted out before the break..
we are 20 minutes into the second part, and im still at about 2k….
( I won 2 25k fun money sng’s on absolute while playing in the blogger tourney, but, before that, I lost 2 100k sng’s, so….. )
4:25pm these bloggers don’t fuck around.. I can recall one orbit where there was not a raise… my patience is holding strong tho… blinds are gonna dictate some creative play tho… soon…
4:26pm blinds are 200 now, and I’ve only got 1900 so.. I guess I just have one bet now…
4:27pm just got moved to another table.. right to the left of the button.. I got a whole ‘nother orbit to make a plan.. lol. ( im so screwed ) maybe this table is the limp in table… damn I am way short stack at this table..
4:30pm just got moved to wil’s table.. ( wheaton ) I go more chips than him!!!!
GRob is here too… he got way more chips than me….
4:32pm Wil is all in!! QQ!! They held up to one caller with AJ ….
4:33pm these cards suck something fierce… I gotta get a good run soon…im down to 1600…… I know Im gonna get called.. so I have to have a great hand…

Good Blog, PokerStars, Grandkids, Boinks, other.
First things first..
I am drunk.. and that will pretty much be the emphasis for 2) 3) 4) and god forbid I go to 5).
About this question Pokerstars has asked the blogging community… oh lord, how easy is this to answer… I purposely, forbade myself from reading anyone elses take on the matter, so as to not be jaded by their train of thought.. and I just wanted to think about it, and if I decided to answer the question, then I would have my thoughts in order and be able to actually type something coherent….
Now, the question is, or perhaps, the challenge is.. Pokerstars has asked the blogging community, and perhaps specifically, the poker blogging community, to tell them, in our own words, what make a good blog…?
Well, after careful thought, and after noticing other bloggers have typed paragraph after paragraph, and after apprx. 6.25 16oz beers.. I have the answer..
And I realize I may have missed a deadline, however, the answer, the correct answer, is stil pertinent to the question.. so, without any further ado.. oh wait.. it is my intention to make this post, my most awesomeest, most bestest, most spectacular post ever…..
Did I mention I came in 31st for Wil’s Pokerstars tourney…?? I don’t think I did… yep 31st place.. out of about 140 or so…. I forget.. funny thing is.. I clicked on CALL for the Pokerstar window and on FOLD for the Absolute window, and guess what.. I got it backwards….. I meant to fold.. honestly….. turns out.. I had two overs.. my A9 vs 77… but, the board was not kind.. so, it ended for me… would have been a nice dbl up.. from 3k or so….ah well..
Boinks on the head are cool… they allow you to tell others how best to play a certain hand…. And also, if the occasion arises.. to perhaps give your take on what you look for in a blog, perhaps what you might think makes for a good blog, maybe, the best blog….
Oh yeah.. back to the blogging.. well, it is rather simple… taking the question for what it is worth…
What makes a good blog, is CONTENT.
Believe it or not.. that is all that has to be said.. One could quantify the answer by saying, THE SUBSTENCE of the CONTENT is what makes for a good blog.. but, we are all intelligent enuff to know that already..
I am not going to write paragraph after paragraph explaining my answer.. mainly because, it has already been done, and it has been done better.. but, I will tell you.. without having the priviledge yet of reading any of the answers out there yet, that without a doubt, the substance of their contents, completely and cohertly explains, what makes for a good poker blog…

I just figured out the new title to my Blog, as I never did like the one I chose to begin with…. I am so happy…. (
Well, the upload of the images is not working…. But, I am not hung up yet.. I will prolly just strew a few photos about.. with no captions.. I am sure none will be necessary.

Boink of the head…….. I figured out how to play low stakes holdem and win.. even if I end up with less money, I figured out how to be the winner…. Low stakes meaning… 2 cent/4cent stuff, no limit…

I think the guy to my right got tired of me bluffing, cuz he is raising everything…… he is chip leader too…… I am back to patient mode

I played about 60000 more hands than I usually do, and I betted with middle pair which I never do, and I called with bottom pair.. which I used to thing only stupid people did.. few minutes later.. I win an SNG.. 9 bucks… BOINK!!!
I changed the name of my blog for pretty much one reason, ok, two reasons.. 1, I just didn’t like the one I had.. and 2, well.. it occurred to me that I would only post when I figured sumtin out.. poker or not… basically, if I had what I thought was a good idea, or suggestion, or information…. I would make a post.. otherwise.. I would just crap away 40 cents a pop on absolute… which brings me to another Boink!

About this question Pokerstars has asked the blogging community… oh lord, how easy is this to answer… I purposely, forbade myself from reading anyone elses take on the matter, so as to not be jaded by their train of thought.. and I just wanted to think about it, and if I decided to answer the question, then I would have my thoughts in order and be able to actually type something coherent….
Now, the question is, or perhaps, the challenge is.. Pokerstars has asked the blogging community, and perhaps specifically, the poker blogging community, to tell them, in our own words, what make a good blog…?
Well, after careful thought, and after noticing other bloggers have typed paragraph after paragraph, and after apprx. 6.25 16oz beers.. I have the answer..
And I realize I may have missed a deadline, however, the answer, the correct answer, is stil pertinent to the question.. so, without any further ado.. oh wait.. it is my intention to make this post, my most awesomeest, most bestest, most spectacular post ever…..
Did I mention I came in 31st for Wil’s Pokerstars tourney…?? I don’t think I did… yep 31st place.. out of about 140 or so…. I forget.. funny thing is.. I clicked on CALL for the Pokerstar window and on FOLD for the Absolute window, and guess what.. I got it backwards….. I meant to fold.. honestly….. turns out.. I had two overs.. my A9 vs 77… but, the board was not kind.. so, it ended for me… would have been a nice dbl up.. from 3k or so….ah well..
Boinks on the head are cool… they allow you to tell others how best to play a certain hand…. And also, if the occasion arises.. to perhaps give your take on what you look for in a blog, perhaps what you might think makes for a good blog, maybe, the best blog….
Oh yeah.. back to the blogging.. well, it is rather simple… taking the question for what it is worth…
What makes a good blog, is CONTENT.
Believe it or not.. that is all that has to be said.. One could quantify the answer by saying, THE SUBSTENCE of the CONTENT is what makes for a good blog.. but, we are all intelligent enuff to know that already..
I am not going to write paragraph after paragraph explaining my answer.. mainly because, it has already been done, and it has been done better.. but, I will tell you.. without having the priviledge yet of reading any of the answers out there yet, that without a doubt, the substance of their contents, completely and cohertly explains, what makes for a good poker blog…

Boink on the head
I don't know how to spell ephiphiny so, boink on the head seemed appropiate.
It oocurred to me, while playing poker on Absolute the other night.. I never get lucky... or at least, only rarely.. It is always the 'other guy'. At first, I figured I am just an unlucky sob that prolly should just start sitting around the house in my boxers, wearing black socks and flip-flops...
Then I remembered sumtin Sklansky wrote about in, The Theory of Poker, about suckouts, and I am paraphrasing here:
'I don't get lucky because I don't put myself in a position where my decisions will require me to be lucky'
Sure, I do suck out on people... but, 9 times out of 10, I was ahead preflop, or it was a coin flop.. and it is not very often that I do suckout on people.. and I know the reason.. it is because:
1) I don't play very many hands..
2) I'll usually only stick around after the flop, if I have some sort of nuts.
I don't like drawing hands, and will generally not chase unless I happen to have the chips to fuel the virtual suckout mobile...
So, in summary, my luck is prolly and most likely no different than anyone else's.... I can simply get 'more lucky' by playing more hands.... which is much more promising than decreasing the suckouts by playing less hands... certainly seems it will be more profitable in the long run..
Got 12 bucks on absolute, from winning a couple bucks from their frequent freerolls, and playing micro limits and low buy in SNG's
Got 8 bucks on pokerchamps, from winning just 1 dollar from one of their frequent freerolls.. playing micro limit no limit. ( its a hoot, buying in with a dollar, and tripling up to 3 dollars in one hand... )
Checked out PokerStars micro limits last night.. they really are not micro limits..
So, here is to getting more 'lucky'!

I added a link to Pokerchamps over there on the right... they have a cashback program that seems to me, to be pretty sweet, especially, for those of you that play with more serious money than I do.. their software is a lil different from most other sites.. but, it seems to run without any glitches and is pretty easy to get used to after not too much time....
Here is a lil tidbit from thier web page about the program...
"If you play an average of 2-3 hours a day on a US $5/10 table your direct payout from PokerChamps will be approx. US $100 in one week!"
You don't have to do anything special to sign up... just download the software, create an account, and poof.. you in the program.. think of it as an on going never ending bonus....
I recently placed in one of their frequent freerolls, and cashed a dollar.. so, I started playing some NL at the micro limits, ( .02/.04 ) have since taken that dollar to $4.74.
This could very well be a gold mine, for us micro limit grinders.. :)

Vegas, Limit, TV
WPBT Winter Classic II
I've got my flights booked and my room reservation all done. I am going this time. No Doubt. I ended up booking thru Southwest airlines... because a friend of mine decided to go with me, and he was able to use his SW Rewards to garner two tickets for any day/any time. He simply had to pay an extension fee of 50 bucks since they expire before December.. so, it ended up costing me $170.00 for round trip airfare. The rates that the Imperial Palace is giving us are pretty fantastic, and our 4 night stay comes to $148, or $75 each. Add in the $10 shuttle from the airport, and the $25.00 parking here at the Austin airport, and I am still under $300 for the whole trip.. leaving me plenty of cash - o - la to give to my fellow bloggers...
We will be arriving Wednesday, the 7th, at about 9pm and returning to Austin, Sunday evening, leaving LV at about 6:30pm. I am so excited about this trip... more excited than I need to be, I am sure... Imperial has a NL hold em tourney the night I arrive, and the buy in is like 50 bucks.. so, I just may participate.. with the goal of paying for my trip shortly after arriving.. that would be cool..... I am interested in several of the attractions and perhaps one or two of the shows... but, I plan to just do whatever.... no schedule, no list of things, no timeline.. just sorta be... there....
Started playing low limit limit poker... I guess I got tired of the low limit SNG variance and decided to see how the limit variance is. It's the same. heh... I am down 3 buy-ins($1.20) on Absolute, but up .50 cents on PokerChamps... I am not very experienced with limit poker... I am not used to chasing but, it seems if you hit 4 to a flush or straight on the flop, your supposed to chase... most of my losing hands were good hands.. just beat by such as, a higher flush, higher straight, stuff like that.... I try to play only connects, suiteds, and premium, then get out if the flop is ugly... not sure if that is the proper strategy.. I do know, there is no bluffing in limit, not at the .02/.04 level. It's a nice change from the SNG circus... and maybe I will learn something.
Amazing Race still has my two favorite teams.. the Weaver's and the Gagans.. Weavers came in fifth, I think.. Gaghan's came in second to last... next week is prolly a non elimination round.... most likely put everyone back to square one...
Yay!! Steph is still going strong on Survivor..
she was really feeling the kick in the junk when they lost the reward challenge... but, her team came back to win the much more important immunity challenge and I know that she has got to be thrilled about that... previews for next weeks show look damn good.
For those crafty types... I just happened to catch Martha Stewart one day, on the TV. ( Please don't ask, must of been karma ).. anyway... she did a segment on Poker and the crafty part is what looks to be and easy to make set of coasters. I figure someone with skills could make a couple of sets and give them as prizes at the tourney in December.. its a thought, anyway.. ( I know I am not crafty enough )

Not much news
Just been playing between 2 and 4 micro limit SNG's per day, on Absolute...
Im up a bit, but not enuff to go up in buy ins.. Things should be looking better by this weekend...
I've also had a bout of allergies for the last week or so.... its nice to have the cool weather and all, and even the rain.. but, they play hell on my allergies...
Playing at the lower limits, is a chore.. to say the least... takes alot of patience... which makes things boring, rather quickly... which tilts me... which is why I only play between 2 and 4.
I finally finished ITM on one of the regular freerolls at PokerChamps... cashed one dollar...
back to work now, with a box of kleenex...wishing it were December already.

Vegas travel info
For those in Austin, going to Vegas for the WPBT tourney/event on and about Dec 10, I believe I have found the best possible deal:
Booking flight/hotel separately.
The rates the Imperial Palace is giving us are exceptional... stay there. no question. They are not going to honor those rates tho, if you book a package.
Flying to Vegas, leaving Wednesday, the 7th, at 8pm. South West airlines $108
Coming back, leaving Sunday, the 11th, at 10:48pm. AmericaWest airlilnes $99
The room total is $116 ( quoted from thier staff ), which I am splitting with a friend, so my total is about $286. 3 days, 4 nights.

Strangeness,Poker,TV
My post for the PokerStars Blogger Tourney is missing in action...

But, it doesn't show up on my blog, nor my archives, nor anywhere else...except bloglines.. which is where I got the link.... I've already seen my name on PokerStars as registered.. but, if I need to redo the post, I have no problem with that.. it is just strange...
I've lost my bank on Doyle's.. which should change it's name to suck out city.... started with $2.00. ( had 92, but took out 90 for Vegas trip ).
Was sick last week and ended up playing in several early morning Freerolls on Absolute, since I didn't have to work.. and placed in them money in 3 of them for a total of 9 dollars..... and since then have played a few .60cent SNG's and worked it up to $20. I figure that is a couple of meals in Vegas.. but, I am gonna keep playing 2 or 3 low limit sng's a night or so, try to get it up to a bankroll worthy of some 10 or 20 dollar SNG's... maybe sit in a few ring games...
I've regained my patience and my discipline... and my dispostion, and remembered that I control when I get sucked out on, the majority of the time....
Things are looking really swell for me making it to vegas... I am going to book my flight prolly this week for sure... ( austin folks going: America west is by far the best deal for rountrip flight that I have found ). Already got a confirmation from the Imperial Palace for 4 nights... and the rates they are offering us are going to be hard to beat... especially since the Imperial is just about smack dab in the middle of the strip...
I am still debating on learning Pai Gow before I go, or taking the class from Pauly or the like... which I am sure they will be glad to offer.. :)
TV missed survivor last week.... but, Steph is still in, so, that is cool...
Almost lost my team on Amazing Race last night.. the Gagans.... but, my second team I am routing for came in first.... widow mother and 3 kids...
doesnt look like they will be leaving the country this go around... understandable.. the logistics for keeping track of 40 contestants running around various parts of the world, is prolly a bit more involved than 22 contestants... and they do have the children along...
Oh, I am only going to do one shot of SoCo, so... keep that in mind, whomever might try to corrupt me....
